We have the opportunity in a few weeks to make a change of leadership in the Carter County Mayor's office. We need new leadership. The County Mayor is the CEO of the county and is supposed provide leadership. Mr. Holder has not done so, not on any topic of major improtance. He does not have the stones to make or take a stance. He gavels the meetings open and closed and thats about it.

I agree with you 100%, he needs to go. we need a new county mayor, johnny h has not done one thing that I know of. I know that his office has been called numerous times over junk cars being parked on the road and it makes it very hard for a moving cars to pass and nothing has been done about it.

I am not voting for anyone connected with the new jail. It should never have been built in the current location. We need a change in the commissioners also.

I think the idea of a county mayor is funny. There is no need for one. I think the meetings can be open and closed without a mayor. I believe someone just does not want anyone complaining to them so they came up with the idea for a mayor to pass the buck to. Does the mayor get paid? If he does, it is a waste of taxpayers money.

Truth, the mayor is SUPPOSED to have basically the same job day to day as the city manager (except for the county of course). that is as another poster said, act like the CEO of the county. It is a full time job and is very well paid.

Thank you Independent for the info.Only in the south have I heard of county mayors. Some states have selectmen for the small towns in the county. They seem to make do with that. They see no need for a mayor. If anybody came up with that idea they would be laughed at.

There are 2 ways to run a municipality, truth, The county uses a "strong mayor" model where the mayor is also the manager of various departments. The city uses the "weak mayor" model where the mayor is largely a ceremonial position.(opening and closing meetings, honoring dignitaries, etc). any municipality that uses the "weak mayor" system has to hire a manager (like our city manager) to run the day to day business.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

The question above as to what the salary for the mayor's office was a good one so I thought I would check the county's website to look at their budget. GUESS WHAT! Carter County does not publish their budget. You can quickly find the City if Elizabethton budget but nothing for the county. Makes one wonder why they hide their numbers doesn't it? DO NOT VOTE FOR HOLDER OR ANY OTHER INCUMBENT!
