The Elizabethton boys club has let the atheletic department go in the tank. All that money spent for new floors and no teams to play on them! Our league phoned them repetidly and tried to work out a plan to bring in multiple teams and the one in charge decided that they couldn't make enough money to let us play there. We would like to invite anyone that is interested to play at Happy Valley next year in our league. The sign up is alot cheaper and we have a good league in place.

Happy Valley is dead wrong with the statement about the athletic program at the Boys and Girls Club. Not only are they wrong about the program at the Club, I coach there and the season is going fine. From what I have been told Happy Valley was playing at the Boys and Girls Club the last two years and dropped out of the tournament last year after the schedule had already been made. All 16 teams! Threw a monkey wrench in the tournament but it was successful nonetheless. If you want to play at Happy Valley feel free, but the Directors at that Club do a great job!

Happy Valley has a basketball team??? If Happy Valley had a facility to play in they wouldn't be looking for a place to play. The boys club keeps taking shots from the same idiots. Face it, the club is the only place in Elizabethton that the kids are important and treated fairly. Give it time and people will realize that the club is the best place to be. Happy Valley's league will be a joke with a bunch of mad parents. They have an age group that goes from 5-8. Do you really want your Kindergarten child playing with third graders??? I also heard that David Baines was one of the people over it. If he is over it then I bet Stansberry is right there with him. Good luck with David and Stansberry running the show, they will run the National Little League in the ground too. Stansberry doesn't have many places left to go since he got thrown out of Smoky Mountain for lying about ages and fake birth certificates. HaHa the first comment from HV B-ball has an I.P. from Loudon, TN. The same people that beats them in the Football playoffs when they make it.

Everyone that is disappointed at the end of the year will be welcomed back to the club next year. Sorry that you will have lost a whole season to H.V.

I must comment on this thread my son played for
Coach Baines in basketball when he helped my son's Coach and and also played baseball under Coach Baines when he was a Assistant Coach and he made a tremendous difference in my son's life! Coach Baines is the type of Coach that looks through what he sees on the outside and instead looks to the inside of children, always allowing them to be their self.Coach Baines as far as my son goes You capitalized on his potential and his strengths, boosting his sometimes weathered self-esteem. Thank-you for being more than a 'coach' but a friend and a positive role model, opening your heart up on the Baseball field and on and off the basketball court, allowing my son to be the 'best me' he could be. He realizes now that he will never be over-looked if he is true to himself, not because of all the lessons learned on the field and court, but off the field and court as well. I feel any child fortunate enough to play under you will take away the same experience and knowledge my son has.

As a matter of fact, HV has 19 teams in their league. Also, they have facilities to play in. They also play by real basketball rules. This season is shaping up to be the best season HV has had since it left the county youth league 3 years ago. By the way, Stansberry has no association with the HV board. I don't know that he even has a team in the league.

Michael and he is affiliated with the HV league. Ask David Baines. If he's smart, he will probably not claim that he is helping him. I know that I wouldn't.

How did David help your kid? Did he let his son play on his team with his "birth certificate"? It's funny that he can have a kid in the 6th grade but play in a 4th grade 10U tournament. Altering birth certificates must be a specialty at Instant Replay.

If Stansberry is associated with the HV league, it is only as a coach. And I don't know for sure if he even has a team there. He may have one of the teams that left the EB&GC. However, I do know that he is NOT a board member. So, he has absolutely no influence over what happens in the league. There are ~14 members on the board and every decision made concerning the league is voted on by those members. Even Mr. Baines can't arbitrarily make league decisions. I personally don't care much for Stansberry, but I know he is friends with Mr. Baines.

Why does it say you are from AOL Michael? It doesn't go by where you live. It depends on which internet carrier you have.

Look at everyone getting heated! Again, being a coach at the Boys and Girls Club is something special to me. I have been coaching there for over 5 years, and yes I coach my son. I know Michael Stansberry and think he does a wonderful job teaching his kids how to play the game. He beats teams eyeballs in, but when you see how his kids play you know he has taught them well. As for these other leagues, I hate to see the Boys and Girls Club lose teams because someonelse has bad mouthed this orginization. The Boys and Girls Club does a great job in all of their programs. They play all the games in one facility, they have new floors that look great, and Billy Etter has done a great job saving the season when it looked as though it might fail due to too many other places trying to have their own leagues. From what I have seen so far, the Pre-season tournament was great and I am looking forward to a great regular season. It really would be nice if everyone in Elizabethton would start working together rather than bad mouthing other leagues and causing this town to be divided. This community has a great shot at becoming a great sports town again. We all do this for the kids, and if you don't then you have no business being involved. WE ARE TEACHING YOUNG PEOPLE HOW TO PLAY THE GAME AND HAVE FUN!!! Try and remember that the next time you find yourself invovled in a childs sports life. They are watching you all the time. When we start paying these 7, 8, 9, year olds to play then we can start getting all fired up!

I think we all know who the "EBGC Coach" is. Sounds like he got everything that he wanted again this year. I didn't think that he had any respect for Stansberry though. Doesn't Stansberry coach with that Carter guy?

It seems that most of you are making this an adult issue. I have been around all the leagues, and never have a seen a child complain about another team. The parents are so caught up in winning, they forget that it is about teaching the kids the game. It seems to me from reading the posts that most of the parents complaining are from the teams Stansberry's team is beating. Hasn't Stansberry's team been together for a while? It is nor about the wins or losses but the kids. REMEMBER THIS.

The only reason the HV league exists if because of the kids. It's been stated many times that we left the county league because we were having to turn away as many as 80 kids a year. This is because the county league would only allow each school to have 4 teams per age group and a max of 10 players per team. Therefore HV pulled out of the county league so that every kid that wanted to play for HV could.
The HV league played the last two years with the EB&GC as well as at HV. Unfortunately that relationship got damaged last year when one of our age groups was not going to be allowed to play in the end of season tournament. Our 14 member board voted unanimously to withdraw completely from the tournament. The HV board paid the EB&GC a lot of money to play there, so it was felt that all teams should have been eligible for the tournament.
HV is a fully sufficient league that plays all of it's games at one location as well. All teams were outfitted with brand new uniforms. We are not trying to be in competition with any other league we just want our kids to be treated fairly, to have fun and learn some basketball in the mean time.

What are the ages groups at HV, where are the games played, what nights do they play games, and who are the board members?

One team wasn't allowed to play because it wasn't a drafted team. It was a team that was brought down to the club and they knew before the season started that they wouldnn't be able to participate in the tourn. This is what I had heard anyways. Everyone has their own stories about what went on and there are two sides to every story.
