Like $12 last time I was there. But it is absolutely worth it!

We went to Farmer's Daughter Saturday afternoon, delicious as usual. The cost is $14 but that includes the meal of two meats, a dozen sides, two types of bread (homemade yeast rolls & cornbread), drinks, dessert & tax. You can have all the bread, meat, and sides that you wish but only one dessert. The only thing not included is the tip. The Mennonite doughnut tent was set up beside the Mennonite store next door. They sell out quickly, and then they are gone. We try to get one, or two, to go. They are great the next day! It is a good way to spend an afternoon, eat at Farmer's Daughter, get doughnuts, shop at the Mennonite store, great cheese & bread.

if it is that bad of quality then why is it so packed?
They are packed because Dan is a master of perception, he spent a lot of time on the Carolina coast and knows what southerners like. He even got his name (The Farmers Daughter) from a restaurant on the outer banks.
He sells an idea and he's damn good at it, but if you talk to the Mennonites and local farmers you will learn he's not a nice person.
I wish him all the success in the world, God knows Greene County needs the revenue.

Are you sure that was his Wife you met?
I am not jealous of Dan He is good at what he does but that does not excuse the way he treats his help. I have talked to Mennonites whose family has tried to work for Dan and even though they are humble people they are not going to be abused by an angry and troubled man

I never talked to anyone's wife, I just know it was good food, good prices and a pleasant atomsphere all around. All the people eating there seemed to be enjoying their self.

Dan, and his wife Rachel are both just the nicest people. We have been to Farmer's Daughter MANY times, and have seen Dan interact with the Mennonite community. He is much loved by them, and they EAT at Farmer's Daughter. I know the man who supplies the firewood for Dan's ribs, and BBQ. He thinks the world of Dan. You will NEVER be treated any better than when you are dining at Farmer's Daughter. This "Uncle Wayne" is the ANGRY, TROUBLED, man here! I suspect there is lots of jealousy here also. Dan, and Rachel's employees are happy working for them. We personally know many of the wait staff, the hostess, cashier, etc. They have only praise for the Tyson's. You will NOT find any better Southern home cooking than Farmer's Daughter. They use local produce, whenever available. Of course, they use a food service like all good restaurants do for their staples. "Uncle Wayne" is a party of ONE! I believe him to be the same person who tried to trash the Ole Barn Restaurant. He just needs to stay away from restaurants, eat his sardines and pork & beans at home, and stay off Topix.

Dan & his wife are the nicest people ever! He absolutely does not use cheap ingredients. He uses farm fresh foods as much as possible. Of course, they have to buy supplies from the same vendors who sell to other restaurants. We have been going there for years, and have become friends with the cashier, hostess, the owners, and several of the employees. They are all happy to be working, & I for sure know they are all treated very well. Dan DOES NOT want to be a Mennonite. Some people have assumed he was, and only because the Mennonite store is next door. The doughnut tent is set up on the Mennonite store property, & they are usually only there on Saturdays until they sell out. Now, why in the world would the Tyson's want the doughnut store? You are just being jealous, & petty, for some unknown reason. EVERYONE but you LOVES Farmer's Daughter!
Your right, Dan does not want to be a Mennonite but he does not mind people thinking he is. He does use the cheapest ingredients. Institutional foods is as cheap as it gets.
As far as farm fresh you need to talk to some of the local farmers about how he does business. I know one farmer who grew cabbage one year for Dan and it went great, the next year Dan told him to grow double but when he picked it and showed up at the restaurant, Dan said he would only be able to pay half the price as the year before.
Dan knew that cabbage does not keep and thought he could take advantage of the farmer but the farmer told him he would not sale and took the cabbage and got rid of what he could and let the rest rot in the field.
Local people around here will tell you Dan is greedy and if he continues no one will grow for him.
The reason he wants the donuts is for the profit, it only takes about 5 cents to make one and Dan hates the fact that he has doubled the bulk food stores business and feels ha should be compensated.

I am just stating facts. Dan is a very shrewd business man and know how to sale the atmosphere but if he had to rely on the quality of his food he would be out of business.
I wish him the best. I hope he doubles his business, Greene county needs the revenue.
I'm just saying he is a fake and he knows it. Even when he ran the bakery he lied on his ingredient label. He never used butter in his bread but hey as long as he can get away with fooling people more power to him, he has a great business.
As the saying says.( Money talks but B.S. runs a marathon)

No good restaraunts use instatuional foods. I never heard of the old barn restaraunt, if you are talking about the Farm house I dined there once a month but she could not compete with Dan but thats not his fault.
If you like his food and do not like to wait, just go to Ryans. Same slop.

He is not loved by the Mennonite community, One Mennonite tried to help him and took him north to do direct business with the Mennonites and after meeting him they refused to do business with him. He wants everyone to deal on his terms

Au contraire, EVERY restaurant uses institutional food. Some use local companies, and of course the fast food restaurants have their own institutional food. WHERE in the WORLD do you think food comes from?? The Farmhouse has been out of business for ages. Farmer's Daughter simply has the best country cooking you will find ANYWHERE! I know for an absolute fact that Dan has a great relationship with area growers. As far as the doughnut truck, he is way too busy to handle anything else. I know he is happy that the Mennonite's do well with the doughnuts. He has absolutely NOTHING to be jealous of. It sure sounds to me like you are the jealous ONE here!

Oh no you are wrong, most of your quality restaurants use sysco. Institutional foods is just what they are. they mostly supply schools hospitals and jails. the cheapest you can find.
If you like it fine.

I agree, Rachel is a wonderful person. Her mother is the only reason the restaurant exist.
I don't think they are married anymore.
Like everything else at the Farmers Daughter, it's fake.
I am not jealous of Dan, what I am trying to say is, is that he treats his help like slaves and he uses the cheapest ingredients available.
He assaulted one of his cooks and was accused of sexual harassment.
I know he found the land, he took a chance and was successful. good for him but he is not well thought of here in the community and enjoy your donuts once he gets it going.
The Mennonites will not work for him but he has increased their business a hell of a lot. He has a good thing going but if he continues to treat people like crap, karma will take care of him

Not mad, not troubled, just stating facts. The waitresses are supposed to bow down to him while receiving $5.00 tip four a table of 8. I hate to say it but christians are known to be the worst tippers around I bet he don't have one waitress who has been there for a year
