Pastor upset with sheriff's department over incident
Editor:
My name is James Hill. I am pastor of a church here in Carter County, where I have lived all my life. I work everyday and make an honest living for my family and have since I was 17 years old. And yes, I am a taxpayer.
I am writing this letter in regards to our fine sheriff's department. Any law-abiding citizen would think that if help is needed surely you could count on the ones who protect and serve. But this week while I was sleeping so I could be a productive member of society and get up and go to work, someone decided to steal some of my personal belongings out of my vehicle. What they didn't steal they threw all over the car.
My wife and I decided we should report this to the local sheriff's department. I didn't ask for the county to use their gas to come to my house, I sent my wife to their office to report this incident. But, little did we know this was a waste of time. But don't worry. I won't sue the county for my gas. The officer she spoke with said there was nothing that could be done. No report. No, we'll put extra patrol in your neighborhood, nothing. He said since my doors weren't locked it would do no good to file a report.
By the way, his attitude towards people could be a little better also. I would just like to say to the citizens of Carter County, lock your doors for one thing. And, last but not least, really give much thought and prayer for the decisions you make election time.
Oh yeah, among some of the items stolen were a few gospel tapes. Maybe whoever took the tapes will listen to them and conviction will fall on them. In this case, Jesus will change this person's life.

another example of our public servants at work. dont worry rev. hill they will be sitting there in the morning in their pretty little dodge with a radar gun so they can pull you over going to work. my advice to you is get a gun and learn how to use it. just remember aim for the head and tell them you were in fear for your life!

Your intelligence just amazes me. I don't suppose you're familar with the term "civil service". You cannot fire someone under the Civil Service Act without showing just cause. It's a shame someone like you with your tattos and smoking can't get a job-could it be that the people you're referring to cannot past the Civil Service Test?

Mr. Hill, I would like to personally say that I am very sorry to hear about waht has happened.. there are many times in the past I have stated that i am proud to live in an area that you CAN leave your doors unlocked.. But not anymore! I agree with you 100% when you say to give much thought and prayer about this election.. I am not goign to get on here and try to create a stir and tell an individual who or who not to vote for, but really think about it and encourage everyone you know to go and express their view and VOTE! The Statements by Mr hill should be a fine example of where things are headed. If you wanted to report this and your family wanted this theft documented,(I think) that should have happened!

I moved back to this area approx. 5 years ago after a long 20 year career in the military and law enforcement. Ive only had one occasion last year to contact the local Sheriffs office regarding animal control and some strays. Not a huge deal but I was just looking for some information so I called their non-emergency number. I have to say I was severely disappointed in the deputy's indifferent attitude and near disrespect in his tone in dealing with my issue. I dont know any of the deputies in the CCSO but Im hoping this one individuals attitude is not the prevalent one throughout their department. If it is, they need a serious overhaul and to be reminded they're here to serve the community, not the other way around, and respect given is respect earned.

Its seems funny to me that they tend to forget they are working for the community! I understnad it can be a stressful job sometimes, but there isnt much of an excuse for being rude!

Give someone a gun and a badge, and the job goes to their a$$ and their head and then they don't know what to do with it. The CCSD is a very poor excuse for a sheriff's dept, they are suppose to SERVE AND PROTECT our county. That is the biggest joke ever. To Mr. Hill I am also sorry for your lost and the treatment you received, there is no excuse for it period. It is time for a change for C.C.

Vic-you do understand their are requirements to work at the Carter County Sherriff's Department and you have the audicity to bad mouth the people working there. John Peters doesn't even come close to having what it takes to work as a Deputy Sheriff much less be the Sheriff of this county. Every deputy working at the the Carter County Sheriff's is more qualified than John Peters.
Like I said, it must be very frustrating to try and convince people to vote for him because HE SAID HIMSELF THAT HE ISN'T QUALIFIED. My gosh, even you ought to be able to look over his qualifications and figure that one out. He's the least qualified of everyone who's running and I really hate he's wasting people's time and energy with his begging and pleading for votes. It's really embarressing isn't it? Oh, and one other thing-your guy has never wore a badge before has he-he's never been brave enought to step up and be a sworn Police Officer or Deputy Sheriff. My guess is he doesn't have what it takes so why should I vote for him for sheriff. He's admitted that he knows nothing about the job.

I know that you are completely off your rocker, who said that John P was my guy for sheriff? YOU assume that you know alot but I have news for you, you need to go back to school and be sure that you take a course in SPELLING. With support like you then Mathes does not need anyone else. Please before you make any more negative comments toward any of the candidates, LEARN HOW TO SPELL.

I think the city it assigns to your name is wherever the server for your internet provider is located. For instance, it says Johnson city for me but Im in eliz. Ive seen folks up the creek shown as jonesborough, etc.

Hope that helps.
