I bought a rump roast at walmart yesterday,to have for dinner tonight.I dont know where they get there meat, maybe overseas? But high priced, just the same.I usually dont buy my meat there, usually Ingles.Someone once said to me a long while back, that they inject there meat with something to make it really red looking?I guess i forgot.Anyone else hear that?My husband marinated it all night last night, and then put his special rub on it,and we still couldnt eat it.It was the worst rump roast i have ever had in my whole life. The texture didnt even seem right,Threw the whole thing away.Wasnt anything LIKE BEEF.Anyone else have a beef about walmart meat?

So the title "WALMART MEAT..dont buy it!" stems from one isolated incident where you got something that you didnt like??? Does that seem rational to you? By the way, I get my meat from Food City. Not that Ive got a gripe with Walmart meat, Food City is just more convenient for me and I like their stuff. Im sure if i made a single purchase and didnt like it I would be posting "FOOD CITY, THEYRE THE ANTICHRIST!!!"

I had a guy who worked in the meat department at Wally World tell me that he'd NEVER eat Walmart meat.

Meat from Wal mart is packaged and shipped from a central facility several hundred miles away. It is sent here on a truck that is "probably" refrigerated well enough to prevent spoilage. It might spend several days on that truck. If you want to eat it, go ahead.

It comes from the distribution center in London, KY delivered 4-5 days a week so it would never "spend several days" on any truck. Might want to get your facts straight instead of talking out your ass.

London KY is how far away? over 200 miles according to yahoo maps. Where was it before that? I don't know of any large slaughterhouses in London KY so that means it was shipped there from someplace else. I would guess that would be the major stockyards and beef processing centers in Kansas city and/or the Chicago area.

How do you know it doesn't spend a few days on a truck? Do you drive for them?

Like I said before if you want to eat that brown looking stuff, go ahead.

So where youre from it takes "several days" to drive 200 miles? And since when does Outback, Lonestar, Logans, Food City, Ingles, etc have a slaughterhouse in their back field? It ALL comes in from somewhere else so why single out Walmart?

So you know = Another clueless forum troll

Food City has a fresh meat dept along with the other grocery stores except Wal-Mart. Wal-mart ships their meat in just like Independent said, I know because I worked there. I also know that I will not buy any meat from them either, but to each their own. If you want to eat meat from wally world then have at it.

Does Food City have their own cows behind their building or is their meat also shipped in from somewhere else? Thats what I thought.

Two words about Wal-Mart beef: Embalming Fluid. Their beef has been so infused with some type of preservative that the texture and integrity of the beef has been compromised. Bought their beef on several occasions. Didn't like it. Would not buy beef there again. Pork is iffy, too. Plainly states on the package that it has been injected with a solution. Chicken is ok as long as it is Tyson All Natural.

You are still missing the point so I will type slowly.

Wal Mart beef (not horsemeat folks because the USDA doesn't allow that. Let's get real). Slaughtered in Kansas city or Chicago or Nebraska or wherever. Butchered (ground if necessary) and packaged. Trucked to a warehouse in London, KY. Stays on inventory a bit. Loaded onto a truck for the Tri-cities. Makes the rounds of Wal Marts between London, KY and Eliz where it is delivered. Put in the back room for a bit. Put on display for you to buy.

Is this fresh?

Typical grocery store or steak house.

Slaughtered. Whole carcass shipped to grocery store or steak house. Cut (or ground) and packaged where you can watch. Put on the counter for you to buy.

Which is fresher?

Is your family's health worth a few cents a pound?

Hmmmmm....... I would rather have SaveAlot meat as well.

For quality meat I would buy all of my meat from Hamilton Meats in Boone's Creek.

Their meat can't be beat :)
