Maybe they will change their minds. There is still a lot of high water in parts of the county.

If you don't feel right about sending your child out, don't do it. Better safe than sorry.

No. Look on the Carter County School website. Schools are closed on Thursday, January 17, 2013.

I hope you never have to meet the rescue squads when children injured in a busing accident are brought to the hospital. You may want to apply for a job driving a bus around Ripshin Mtn. or in Poga. It has NOTHING to do with banked snowdays

School days serve a purpose. However, Carter County abuses them badly. Can't count how many times roads have been perfectly fine, yet schools were out on a Friday or Monday just to extend the weekend. If the roads are fine, the kids need to be in school. Funny how many "wonderful" Carter County teachers celebrate on Facebook when school is out as well. You advertise that your free day off is more important than these kid's educations.

I must correct the "free day" off comment. Carter County Schools add 30 min. to each school day, which accounts for 13 full days. These teachers get paid for a X amount of days of work, so I assure you this isn't a free day on the clock. Last yr, I believe 5 days wasn't used. That's five days work unpaid, although 5 extra days of education for our children. If they seem happy on facebook....so what.
I must agree with the earlier post, if you would like to drive a bus full of children through a back mnt. road in the dark a.m. knowing one icy patch or flooded road could result in a tragic situation, then you have far more courage than I.
The state views the county as one. From Happy Valley, to the back hollows of Poga, Clouldland, and Stoney Creek all testing, graduation, and other important dates are all set for the ENTIRE COUNTY. For this reason, no area impacted can be singled out and closed.
This is coming from a parent, not a teacher or staff member. Just because this disrupts the daily schedule of my life, I understand it's for the best. School isn't a baby sitting service, and sadly that concept is viewed by many.
Finally, every school in the state of TN will have the same number of days in the classroom, that's all that matters in the end.

You are right on!!! Couldn't have said it any better... These days are definitely abused, and everybody knows it. Then they wonder why their TCAP scores are so low. And yes, it REALLY bothers me when I see all the teachers begging for snow days on FB and then singing Hallelujah when school is called off. They obviously don't realize how bad this looks to everyone. If going to work is that bad, it's time to get another job.

Not trying to be mean but I really don't understand. If you don't like Carter County Schools why do you send your child there? If it's because you're in the county save money for tuition to city schools. If you can't do that then move to the city. Personally my child went to one of the county schools. I liked the fact she was home safe on snowy days instead of on a bus or in a car!

Amen! Last year was the first in history they didn't use all snow days and whining galore. Then they whine if they have to make up any days. Bus service is a courtesy. I don't understand why everyone expects a bus and free lunch. Their test results speak for themselves.

Do everybody a favor and leave Carter County if you don't like it. I'll tell you what, get your lazy ass up on a snowing/ or flooding morning and drive every single back road in the county. Then you may have an opinion. Second, the teachers are probably celebrating because its one day they don't have to deal with uneducated parents. Maybe your kids' test scores are low because they inherited your intelligence. I'm not a teacher but I wouldn't want to get out on a slick road either. So please, by all means, MOVE! Please. I'll help you pack!!!!!!!!!
