I was really hoping for a viable opponent for Kent Williams, but Gray is not the one. His past involvement with the Concerned Citizens and Tammy Ward is very scary.

He isn't Jerome Cochran. You have to give him credit for that.

site says he was born in '85, so he'll be 27 this year...would have been 20-22 during the recall. i say getting involved in local politics at all at age 21 is a good thing. most people are too worries about smoking pot and getting laid at that age.

that, and pretty much every student who went to ehs while ed alexander was principal was involved in that. so in your book nobody who went to ehs in the 1990s and 2000s will ever be eligible for public office even if they were kids when it happened?

oh, and let's not forget 80% of the city voted in favor of the recall. if i were him i'd advertise that i was involved in it in big bold letters in the Star.

Who else is running against Kent Williams? If there's others I wanna know who, but if not might as well support a smart younger guy over that Democrat.

I question him running as a Republican. From what I have seen he does not act like a conservative but probably knows you can not win around here as a democrat. His involement with Tammy Ward is enough to loose my families vote.

1. what does "acting like a conservative" mean?

2. tammy ward is a kent williams zombie. if this gray guy wanted to stay friends with her he wouldn't be running for that seat.

she was one of the parents who gathered signatures for the recall of city school board members judy richardson, bob sams, and bob berry several years ago. they were recalled after treating people like garbage for months and standing with a superintendent who laughed at people at public meetings and was generally incompetent.

over 80% of people voting in that election voted to recall all three of them. so if the claim is that you can't get elected in this town if you were friends with someone who supported the recall, you're disqualifying most of elizabethton from office.

A new face in Nashville is not what carter county needs at this time. He wouldn't know anyone to keep CC moving ahead. Look we put a new face, that had never be in or around politics in as mayor and look what we got. We need people that has a vision for CC. Thomas stay a lawyer make some money, because this job doesn't pay very well. As far as Tammy Ward you have been a great asset to CC and Elizabethton. Thank you.

Yeah, "no new faces in Nashville...until I leave in two years to run for County Mayor lile everyone knows I plan to do."

And good job basically coming out and saying only rich people get to hold office.

It was a majority in favor of the recall, but not 80%, and most of those who voted in favor are now having buyers remorse. I never mentioned Gray's age as the reason I would not vote for him, so I don't see the point of that whole tirade. I love seeing young adults involved in politics. They aren't yet jaded by the process, and often make very good representatives. I just found his letters to the editor rambling and disturbing, as well as being involved with a Political Action Committee.

"The benchmark for removal was 66-2/3 percent of
the total votes cast on the
question — a percentage that
could be considered a landslide for any candidate or issue.
But, both Richardson and
Berry’s recall questions received 79 percent of the vote."

As far as Gray himself, could you link to the letters you referred to and the PAC he is supposedly part of? Those of us who want to make an informed decision would appreciate it.

The Concerned Citizens, were a registered Political Action Committee. As for the link you requested, just go to the 2006 Elizabethton Star Archives and search. Also, the percentages of yes votes in the recall were not accurate because the question on the ballot was misunderstood by so many people. The wording was so misleading that many people voted incorrectly.

So we can put down Kent Williams and Bob Sams (Hopeless) as "no" votes for Gray.
