If it were anyone else in his position they would be asked to resign. I think it only fair that he should voluntarily resign so our town can move on.

If it wasn't for who was waiting in the wings, Id say to resign but a convicted (he isn't yet) Curt would be a better mayor than Shipley any day.

I have to agree with you there. It would be like calling for Mathis to resign then Street take his place.Sort of the lessor of 2 evils. What a joke Carter county is becoming, and I really hate for that to happen.

We are already a joke, we let a drunk keep running the boys and girls club. His time his business, no one could have been hurt unlike Bull Malone.

This situation fits perfectly to what some other poster stated under another topic when stating "Only in East Tennessee". He (or she) was right! Only in East Tennessee!

I'm with you JeannieAnne3. As long as he continues to serve this will be continuing "black cloud" over everything he does.

Yes it will and you know it. He needs to admit what he did and move on. How do we tell our children to respect our leaders when we tolerate this kind of behavior from our elected officials.

When someone represents my community, it IS my business. He should either resign or apologize to the community and implement some personal accountability program to make sure it does not happen again.

Maybe there will be some information tomorrow. We need to get this behind us and move on.

I agree with what some of you have to say, but I went to high school with Curt and he was a good guy with a good head on his shoulder's. I know he has changed a lot, but who hasn't? Also all these snap judgements about what he did is wrong. No ONE is perfect and even as Mayor he has a privite life. No, I agree what he did was a wrong choice, but how many of these ppl who run Elizabethton are perfect? I say none, because no one is perfect. Curt made a major lapse in judgement, but it doesn't make him a bad person. I bet some of the ppl wanting him out of office have done thing's that the citizen's of Elizabethton have no clue about and I bet they want to keep it that way. NO politican is perfect. I don't trust any of them. Look at Bill Clinton, he got caught with his pant's down, but he stayed in office. Why? b/c he was still doing his job. I know republicans are going to be mad at that statement, but really look at both sides. Everytime we turn around one of the ppl that should be representing us is caught doing thing's they shouldn't be doing. Yes Curt should have made better judgement calls when it came time to pay up for the hooker, but some other part of his body was speaking instead of his brain. But other than this mistake I haven't heard anything bad about Curt doing his job. I think he's a good person who just made a mistake like we all to at times, maybe not like the one he made, but we do. If he's doing a good job I think we should leave him alone to decide.

Kurt was in the process of getting a divorce and does not have children to be embrassed. What he does on his own time is his business and if any of you is without sin cast the first stone.

On his "own time"? From my understanding, this arrest happened at 4pm. I would think he would be still in the office and acting out his mayoral duties at that time of day. Yes, his case is 'settled' and he has said: "I don't want to hear anymore about it". Ha, fat chance Mr. Mayor! He said MORE but that is for another discussion.

NO ONE is without fault. So that is a lie right off the bat. I hope it's not you that is the councilman/politicion who plan's on stepping up and helping Curt out the door. And in your statement above you are admitting that whom ever this is taking Curt's place HAS done some thing's in their past "JUST NOT ON THE LEVEL CURT HAS". So therefore as I said NO ONE IS PERFECT!!!! So you just gave it away that our NEW great MAYOR is no better than anyone else.

My point exactly. I was being sarcastic just like the perfect without fault councilman who is waiting and wanting to be the mayor at any cost.

There is no full time Mayor in such a small town, there is no Mayors office downtown at the City office. He provides over the city council one night a month. He is paid $100.00 per month for his duties. We get what we pay for. What he spends his $100 on is his business. His fine was only $25 the only thing less in Tennessee is not wearing your seat belt which I bet everyone has done at one time or another. So we see the how much our community puts on that crime.
