http://www.escapesomewhere.com/cgi-bin/mort_r... Pretty cool here. Prime rate from 1975 to present. In 1977, the prime rate was 8.875% Bt the time Carter left in 1981, it was up to 16+ and topped out at 19 about 6 to 9 months later. Then it began a decline. By '87, it was back down to 8.875. You are right on the purchase time but those guys tried to hold onto it as long as possible hoping that things would turn around before they went broke. In the end, they had to sell.

I worked for Steve Grindstaff and I can tell you that he is not a very nice person to work for and he will F*** his mother over for the right price. However he is not very bright either. I do not believe anyone has any evidence to support the claim of him being a drug dealer but I can tell you from my experiences working with him, some things just did not add up. I kept my nose clean though because I really did not care. I can not confirm nor deny the allogations against him however I will say that something is not right about his business.

I worked for him for a few months and that dealership doesn't make him the money that eveyone thinks it does. Remember when he said he was gonna sell 200 cars in a month. It was about 5 or 6 yrs ago. He didn't sell an 1/8th of that amount. I will say that he will sell a car no matter what it takes. I just don't believe that is where the money comes from.

I used to work for a firm that did high end home theater systems in the MD/DC area. I worked for a LONG list of people who, for lack of a better term, were BEYOND, filthy rich. People like Tom Clancy, and a long list of people I won't waste your time 'name dropping' on who earn nearly that much a year, etc. I also worked for the owner of Heritage auto group and my friend's Uncle used to be the CEO of Bill Currie in FL. Grindstaff's auto dealerships are sitting here in nowhere east Tennessee with half a dozen cars on the lots and can't hold a candle to those dealerships yet he has a home 'he claims' is worth 20 million bucks? Puhleezee! Been there, seen that, tacky, nothing fancy. His Nouveau Riche pile, from the realtor.com pictures looks like something I wouldn't estimate was worth more than about 3-5 million at best. What's the deal here?

I don't "know" him personally...but when I bought my car, he drove me around the lot in his car..b/c it was dark..to look at cars. His staff stayed until after closing time..to help me. The service dept has been great about reminding me of service needs...so I personally had a good exp. And as far as he goes....a little creepy..but I thought he was nice enough.

Yes he was up to his ass in it. Thank god he is getting what he deserves.

I do not trust him! SG et al owns several dealerships - I read. Can't wait for the final "SOLD" bid. Google CASTLES 4 SALE WORLDWIDE.

I have no idea if the rumors about him are true or not, but I will say this, I have an uncle in Ohio who has owned multiple, successful (even during the hard car times the last couple years) car dealerships for many years and he isn't living in a 28 million dollar castle. And, my uncle is still married to his first wife so he's not paying for alimony and child support to multiple wives and children, which I'm sure gets expensive. Of course who knows how much money he may really have because my uncle doesn't feel the need to flash it and he would NEVER buy jeans with "rich" imprinted across the butt. Money and class and not the same thing

Does he try to look like Elvis? Like the charisma but believe in our economic times, he needs to remove glasses and jewelry. In these tough economic times the flashy look needs to go!

20 years ago I was offered a "job" transporting cars for the Grindstaff dealership over state lines...I was offered a LARGE sum of money and warned of the serious risks involved and the possibility that I could go to prison. So I can say without a doubt that is how he began, but I think he is far from it now. BTW, I did NOT take the job.

i know him personally, and he earns his money from owning multiple dealerships and owning one of the best kia dealerships in the country. he also is an amazing businessman that uses a great loaning company so he can take risks that pay off. NOT with drugs but with new car dealing strategies that bring in customers. he is nice, funny and a hard worker for his VERY legal VERY hard earned money.

Anyone who is so self absorbed that he gets the word "Rich" imprinted on his jeans will eventually come tumbling down. Looks like his time came sooner than later, as I hear he has the house on the market for a reason, asking half of what he says he has in it. Wonder how long before his little wife walks? She looks like a freak now... Did she have plastic surgery? Wtf...
