what is up with the water bills in the south utility district (gap creek, long hollow area?) our water bill is running nearly 100.00 a month..it has went from 40.00 a month to 100.00 in the last few months.. are the meters being read or are they being estimated? everyone i talk to in the area is having the same problem.

Do you suppose we are having to pay for that big new building they built?

The same here. Our water was froze for 21 days last billing cycle and our bill was still 47.00. I could just imagine what it would have been had it not been froze. We deserve some kind of explanation.

katie, try this. Turn off everything in your house, then go outside and take the lid off the meter. Inside there will be a gauge under glass that shows water use. On that gauge will be a little red triangle. If that any water at all is moving thru the meter, that little triangle will move. If everything in the house is turned off and the triangle is moving, you have a leak and leaks are EXPENSIVE. The most common place for a leak is your toilet. If all the "guts" arent in good shape, it can run up your bill by 20/month or more. I hope this helps.

Take a look at your bill, we are paying $7.00 to Hampton/Watauga just for a surcharge. There is just the two of us and we are paying 45/month for water. I think that is way too much. Our house is less than 3 years old with on leakage. When we first moved here the bill was in the low 20's. You'd think with so many people hurting from the economy that a TVA backed company would do better.

You can figure a minimum of 10,000 to 12,000 for a well and ive seen them go as high as 18.

If this supposed leak is NOT between the meter and your house, it is not your responsiblity and IT WOULD NOT SHOW UP ON YOUR METER unless it is going through the meter. Nevertheless, the water dept. has to give an ADJUSTMENT once a year. AND what is a half mile from your house?

Figure they must ALL be out taking care of EMERGENCY BUSINESS. a crock of bull. Also, I was told once "Don't ever touch your meter. Call us and we'll come turn it off". So, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I personally think there is a damned bunch of trained crooks in charge...of everything. I'm beginning to think they go to a special training school to learn how to rip people off! I hate the utility companies.

Just drink your own waste as has been done all these years. Put your well tap into the septic tank. After all why change things
