Visitors to the Carter County Car Club's car show in downtown Elizabethton noticed a major change last weekend that will become permanent for the weekly Saturday evening event.

I think it is totally outrageous. Most of us enjoy just cruising though with our kids in the car, not walking fighting your way through a thousand people not to mention trying to find a place to park. I think it really stinks. On the other hand, I can see the good side of it, the show cars won't get hit by some idiot kid not paying attention where he's going.

I hated when you would try to drive through down there and the car in front of you would come to a complete stop to talk to someone at at car

Well, you can look at it from the officials perspective..... "If we block it off to drive thourgh traffic, everyone will have to find a place to park and walk through, half of the people will not even come anymore, and the teenagers hanging out at the corner will outnumber the actual car show onlookers... that will cut down the numbers of people that bother coming to the car show by 3/4!!"

Wonderful idea don't you think....

I think it stinks!! Everyone that I know enjoyed crusing though, I don't know about you, but I would much rather enjoy it from the air conditioned seat of my car with my family that trying to fight through crowds of people and walk for hours in the heat. Or, maybe it's just the downtown area deciding if they stop the cruisers they will make more money, hoping that more people will come in the stores and buy stuff, even though most of carter countians can barley afford to live anymore, let alone buy things out of the stores. But just my opinion of course....

There is good and bad about crusing during the car shows. The good thing abour crusing is to see all of the cars without having to do all of that walking. The worst thing that could happen, is if there is a fire and the fire trucks are unable to get to the fire.

I'm sure if there was a fire or other emergency they would make room for that situation.

Then why not stay at home, if you don't like it.

I myself like to cruise through and look around, but sometimes we will park and go hang out with our Mustang friends now and then. It will be unfare to people who can't get around well though, like some of the older people who like to drive through looking around at the older cars they may have owned at one time. I kinda feel sorry for them because they don't have the energy to get out in the heat, find a place to park, and have to walk around :(

haha there's always going to be that one idiot kid that will still end up hitting a car somewhere, LOL SPLAT! Just like when you park away from everyone to not get any door dents...you still have that one dummy who parks right beside you, and his car is maybe 2 feet from yours!

I see people downtown enjoying the car show in wheelchairs. They will also let people show any car no matter what. You should have told them you would like to show your car. They are very nice there and I find it hard to beleave they would not help you.

The car show is a wonderful event for our town and for you people to come on here and complain about them not letting you break the rules should just keep your butts at home. I bet they don't let you drive your car through the Walmart ether but I don't see you complaining about that.

I'm going to guess that the reason for no cruising thru the car show is this:

The purpose of the car show is for people to look at the cars.

When people walk thru the car show, they look at the cars (unfortunately, in some cases, not where they are going)

If people drive thru the car show, they will be looking at, you guessed it, the cars.

Drivers not looking where they are going and pedestrians not looking where they are going is a recipe for someone, probably a child, getting hit and maybe killed by a car.

End of car show.

If someone is on oxygen or handicapped, roll your chair or scooter thru the show and you wont have to worry about being hit by a car either.

It was better at Ingle's. WAAAYY better. It was always a Cruise-in, never a "car show" until dumbass E-town council put their hands in it. It sucks downtown. And you dont see as many people coming from far away to it. Its the same cars every single weekend all summer long. Sooner or later you have seen enough Mustangs, Novas, Chevelles, and Camaros.

Those kids you people talk about on the corner arent hurting the car show. This Elizabethton and, thanks to city council, there is NOTHING to do in this town. Thus, they sit at the park or hang out near the BK.

The car show or cruise in is much better now that it is down town. It was packed almost every Saturday Night; I met people from Candida and New York, NC, SC that came down just for the show. Having the shade over the sidewalks is great; the speakers down town play the music just right so you can talk to your friends. When they use to let the cars go through, everyone without a muffler came roaring through and making it just awful. Motorcycles would try and see who could rev their engine the most and the loudest per block. If someone needed an ambulance they could not get through with the road blocked with cars. With only one lane going through people could not cross the street without fear of someone looking at a car and not paying attention and running over them. That parking lot at Ingles was so hot in the summer you could not breathe, no shade unless you brought your tent. I was always soaking wet from sweat there. No bathrooms, no free water from the churches downtown. Thank goodness the Council lets us continue downtown. It is the best place and the Car Club has raised much more money for the children of Elizabethton since moving downtown.

I used to go to the car show every weekend when you could cruise through it, but I haven't been in probably over 2 years now because it just isn't worth having to put up with all of the people when you walk around. I also will agree that I enjoyed it more back when it was in the Ingles parking lot. After all, what can you expect once the government gets involved?

I gotta say this, too. When it was just a bunch of people bringing their cars down to Ingles, BEFORE the car club claimed it, it was better. Since going downtown I know a LOT of people who don't go there anymore. Partially because they dont want to be involved in a "car club".

It should have NEVER been changed. The car club and city council should have stayed out of it and left it what it was. A great weekend CRUISE-IN. Not a car show. It's silly now.

@ Whwre were you, Ever been to a bike rally? That sound is part of owning one of those bikes. What about the cars down there that ride through with their loud engines. Just because it's a big block with a huge cam and single chamber flowmasters doesnt mean everyone thinks it sounds good either. I sure dont.

Part of attending a show like that is braving the elements. That's what summer is about. Enjoy the heat because you know winter is coming to ruin it all.

Nothing is stopping you from taking your car back to Ingles, park there all you want. The show is better down town. The people in the club are very good people with a lot of dedication to run it every week. They do a lot for the community. This is America if you don't like what they do keep your butts at home or go out and start your own club. Put it any where you like. Nothing ever pleases everyone and by the crowds downtown your not coming won't bother them one bit.
