Has anybody out there mastered how to get a good variety of TV stations/shows without being tied down to one of these long term contract gimmicks everyone is selling??
Long-range Antenna, internet TV??

Just wondering what people out there are doing.

Mostly, without.

I know a growing body of people who just dont get TV or cable of anykind since the government outlawed free TV.

That was the first thing to go when I had to slash my budget. Centurylink screwed me on the phone, internet and direct tv deal, the BUNDLE package. Rip off. I couldn't pay the 160.00 a month so now I do without. Get my internet though Wi-Fi at Krystals or Chic-Filet or go to the library for free. And who has a home phone anyways these days, not a lot of people anymore.I sure would love to get the news though, it is really sad. I have watched the same DVD's to get to sleep for over a year now, can quote EVERY line from the movie Hangover and a couple of others... it could be worse I guess. But my lights are on! Gotta look at the bright side.
I would love to know also if the is a way to at least get the local news.

Get a roku, apple tv, or wdtv with Hulu, Netflix etc - sickbeard and couch potato too for the extremely tech savvy.

Then get a good hd antenna and say goodbye to long term contracts.

i am disabled and since the goverment took away free tv i can't watch or keep up with anything 'how the hell do they think people like myself that has worked for 40 years and had to retire because of injuries to pay just to watch the news or the weather i my self think that its just a ripoff just like most things n that were free all of our lives we have to pay for it's just not right .even if you have the money for cable or dish they will still find a way to rip you off;watch out before it is all said and done you will have to pay to breath.

What we have done is this.....
We bought a box at walmart along with a cheap antenna. We get about 7 channels, all the news, we then purchased Netflix for 7.99 a month. There are movies, series, to much to ever watch! You do need internet only for Netflix, you can usually find one of the companies having a deal of 19.99/Mon.
Hope this is useful! Or rather HELPFUL!

That's what we did after having to cut the cable due to our budget. We don't hv the netflix or internet but we r still able to keep up with the world's events altho sometimes I think its better not to bc its always sad and heart breaking news. We hv lots of dvds so that fills in the gaps when there isn't anything on tv but as soon as the budget allows I wld like to get internet back and possibly even netflix, but who knows when we will b able to do that!!

We cut out the TV about 10 years ago. We have done just fine. We do rent movies and listen to talk radio a lot. I have actually had people ask me how I know so much that is going on without the TV. When we travel I do turn the TV on in the room just because it is there but find that in about 30 minutes I am already bored with it. I really feel that I am not missing that much. If I won the lottery I would however probably turn it back on.

Wow, we used to have netflix and they didn't hv half that stuff. They must hv improved their service when they had to compete with redbox.

You're welcome. Its the technology these days. Sometimes I can't even keep up with the advances that r made but my internet on my phone is really my only actual connection to the outside world when I'm at home, besides the local news which only depresses me when I watch it.

I bought a small digital television from HHGregg. It gets channel 11, Channel 11 weather channel, and two other channels that are mostly old shows. It is certainly better than nothing and only cost about $100. I don't have to use any additional equipment to receive these channels. I live in Elizabethton.
Hope this information is useful.

Centurylink & Direct screwed me over to. I wanted a bundle package with 1 bill that I told them HAD to stay below $120 and they sent me 2 bills adding over $300....I called them and they kept blaming the mistake on each other...they couldnt lie about it cause I told them to replay the phone conversation that THEY claim to be recording when a customer calls. Even the supervisers claimed their employees lied to me but yet they never tried to fix the problem....I didnt pay the bill and dropped their service. I hope they go under...maybe some co. will buy them out.
