i have heard several people saying that they were taking their kids trick-or-treating on Saturday because of Halloween falling on Sunday. i have also been told they are doing the kids thing in down town on Saturday as well and i know other counties are doing trick-or-treating as well on Saturday. does anyone know if everyone is supposed to do Halloween on Saturday or is it a decision just some have made? i have two boys of my own and would hate to take them out on the wrong night and no one be handing out candy.

thanks for the help!

This is from the Chamber of Commerce web site....

October 30 - Trick 'r Treat - Downtown Elizabethton (3:00-5:00pm)
It's Halloween Time! Children, come Trick 'o' Treat with the downtown Elizabethton Merchants. Remember to dress in your spookiest or favorite costume! Sponsored by the Elizabethton Downtown Business Association.

I don't think anyone ever trick-or-treats on Sunday.

40-odd years ago when I was that age, I used to go BOTH nights LOL.

I'm going to be ready on saturday. God forbid any of these parents let their kids miss church to celebrate the biggest pagan holiday of the year.

I always thought that was kinda ironic. Here is the biggest pagan day of the year and here come the church busses dumping a few hundred kids out in your neighborhood.(Don't believe me, check out Mayfield drive in Lynn Valley on the 30th this year)

I am a new parent and my kids are just now old enough to go this year, i dont want to bring the whole religion thing into it, everyone has their different opinions, i get that. i just wanted to know if everyone is taking their kids out on saturday that way i wouldnt look like an idiot lol. thanks for any input. i knew they are doing the down town thing saturday but i dont want to take my kids down i went with my sister and her kids last year and all we did was sit in line and her kids got hardly nothing. there wasnt that many people handing candy out to the kids.

It was announced on WJHL last night that it would be observed on Saturday night

I was told by someone who works at the city police department that trick or treating is one the 30th. It doesn't make sence and although I love the beautiful place I have moved to I can't say I agree with the idea of celebrating a holiday on a different day. Such as the 4th of July parade on July 3rd??
Even if it's a Pagan hoilday, & I am not religious......aren't people in a religious outlook suppose to be NON judgemental?? How confusing to new people that move here.

I too think it is confusing, to me why would you change the day you celebrate a holiday just because of what day of the week it falls on. i mean you dont see people changing what day we celebrate Christmas on because it falls on a different day than what others like. I grew up taught that as a Christian you were not to judge other people for what they believe so why is it that because this holiday falls on a sunday it is being changed for the year? To me halloween is a day for people to dress up as something they arent and express their personality through the costumes they wear. i mean my son wants be a firefighter when he get big so thats what hes going as. i just dont understand

Don't give out any candy on October 30 - tell the kids that they will just have to come back on the real Halloween (October 31st)!

Maybe since you mentioned that you weren't religious, you don't understand our concept in Car Co. Alot of people in this town are at church on Sunday evening, the day on which Halloween happens to fall this year, and in my 50 some odd yrs of life that I have lived here, we have NEVER celebrated it on Sunday night. Just a heads-up.

Why does everything have to be a big issue --somebody comes on this site just to get info and gets snaky comments. In America we celebrate many occasions that are not religious. We have government holidays as well. The fact is that Halloween if you look it up is not a celebration of witches etc...it is explained pretty well here : http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/halloween/a/...

You are 100% correct - it is on Monday, Oct 31st, as it should be.

For those wanting to celebrate Halloween trick-or-treating on some other earlier day, in lieu of Oct 31st, that is rediculous!
Why don't we just celebrate Christmas on Dec 20th or whatever is convenient.
Heck, if New Year's Day, Jan 1st, falls on a Tuesday, and I have to work in the morning, then let's change New Year's Day to a Saturday - okay people?

The Haunted Woods On Cemetery Lane will be open the second weekend in October, the 7th & 8th, and every weekend after that in October. We will be open every night beginning October the 24th-31st. We will open at 8pm and we will remain open through midnight, or until the last victim is served. We will open 1 hour later on Halloween at 9pm so our employees can take their little ones trick-or-treating. We will be open late for Halloween night!!The address is 134 Cemetery Lane, Johnson City, Tn.
