What happened to all the supporters of Parrish he left you high and dry like he left the sheriff office before. The field is getting smaller F.Peters wont run unless he leaves J.C. thanks to the hatch act,Parrish said he cant get out of the service and Carden cant make up his mind if he is going to run or not.

the fewer that run, the worse it is for the incumbent.

Parrish couldn't leave because they extended his time, he had no choice about leaving, you do what uncle sam tells you to do. We have the primary coming up and then the general election. Don't be surprised because there may be another good, reliable person that is from carter county and is more than qualified to run for sheriff. I didn't give much thought about the hatch act but you are right Frank Peters can't run unless he quits j.c. and as far as Kim Birchfield goes, don't he get the hint after all the times he has run for sheriff that the people don't want him. It's like he is beating a dead horse to death.

If you eliminate the people that are effected by the Hatch Act, who does that leave?

Does the Hatch Act not pertain to Kim Birchfield? I hear Marvin Carden is not going to run. John Henson isn't running for sheriff and who is Steve Smith? I know Paul Birchfield is from Roan Mtn and he don't have a chance because he's not a well known person and really not qualified. Jeff Ensor, he is not sheriff material and neither is John Peters, even though his dad was sheriff that don't make him qualified.John wasn't able to keep his job at Mapes but I bet he wouldn't tell the reason he was dismissed from there, and I know he was because I used to work there years ago when he got let go.This is a fact and not mud slinging. Just saying you have to be a calm and cool person to be sheriff, not hot tempered.I say again there will be another person that is more than qualified to be our sheriff and he will run in the August election as an independent. Read Sundays edition of the Elizabethton Star. I really believe he will be the best man for sheriff, just because he has a good reputation and has all of the qualifications to be sheriff.

So that just really leaves Chris Mathes and John Peters to run in the primary because the other ones want hear the gun fo off. Just remember there's still the August election for an independent to run againist who ever wins the primary.

I still think there are too many people running to beat Mathes. The opposition vote will be split and he will win with about 38%.

Not saying I agree, just a prediction.

Maybe I'm wrong.

What has Chris Mathes done thats so bad? Got a divorce? Messed around on his wife? Got some woman OR women pregnant while he was married to his wife? My gosh IF that disqualifies anyone for a job, not many people in Carter County could have ANY JOB cause it goes on so much around here it shouldn't shock anyone. Just because he is our "SHERIFF" doesn't mean he is supposed to be the POPE !!! He is a divorced man so if he dates NOW it's his business and WHO he dates is his business, messing around on his wife WAS bad but he isn't GOD he is human. Think back, before he got into that office all this mess with the existing "ran down jail" was going on, the jail wasn't large enough and was too nasty to be even called humane. He didn't run us up in debt building this...it was already in the plans. So someone explain to me what he has done that HALF of the men in Carter County hasn't done in their lives. I am not related to him and unsure if he will even get my vote but just curious as to why people think him being Sheriff again is so bad? School teachers, Sunday School teachers, Preachers, Parents, Grandparents are MORE role models for OUR children than a "SHERIFF" is, because HOPEFULLY they won't be having anything to do with a sheriff IF the REAL role models act right and do right in front of our children while they are small. Personally I WISH we could swap Sheriff's with Unicoi County, have you ever noticed he's on the news ALL the time with Drug Busts, Moonshine Stills busted up. Only thing I can say about Mathes is HE NEEDS TO GET MORE DRUGGIES off our streets but with Judge Walton locking people up for petty junk it takes up all the room in the jail so they have NO ROOM for REAL OFFENDERS !!!!!
Sorry to dissapoint

Some of you might want to look into the "Hatch Act" garbage that's being thrown around and understand exactly what it does and does not cover. I can assure you, Frank Peters is not in violation of tha Hatch Act. Not a single cent of his salary is covered by Federal funding and the City of Johnson City has also done it's homework. This feeble attempt by the Mathes crew was nothing more than a speed bump in deterring the campaign. Frank is running 100% full steam ahead! He is as committed as ever and IS NOT DROPPING OUT OF THIS RACE.
