What a profound statement. Thanks for taking the time to say why. Any of us can point at any politician and make such a generic proclamation.

Last I heard there was this new invention called an ambulance.

Perhaps it is also important to know that there was talk of shutting down the hospital completely if the birthing center could not be closed. It apparently loses millions of dollars a year.

The ironic thing is that people around here worship at the Republican teat and take every chance to bash Obama. The hospital is merely practicing what the Republicans preach. MSHA is a private company that is looking to cut out services that don't make them any money. Trimming the fat and making cuts where needed. That is what you free market Republicans believe right...that is until it is something that affects you personally. If we had universal healthcare or Obamacare fully in place right now this would probably not be happening. But of course Obama is the Black Devil and everything he does is evil and bad.

It just amazes me how many people around here are TOTALLY CLUELESS about how private enterprise and government works. Most people don't even know the simple basics. And to look up to Angie Odom as your leader really makes me laugh. Anyone who has talked to her one time knows she is as stupid as a bag of hammers riding on the short bus. I bid you good day you bunch of uneducated, ill-informed mouth-breathers.

They hold the Certificate of need for our county in these services. Like Angie said we could and should have had a public hearing directed by the Health Services out of Nashville. MSHA may have a hopsital here but our county does have some say. They have more of a reason to pull out without serving children and babies in our hospital. Just gives them a reason to move because they don't offer as much.

Then why did no one make a big stink about this when it came out? This was not a surprise. MSHA made the announcement in May. Perhaps Crowe and Williams thought that this was the right move because they got no response from the public when the announcement was made. Where was Angie in May? Where was all the outrage then? It is the job of the public to stay informed on issues concerning them. The people who want less government are the same people who want the government to hold their hand so they don't have to do anything until it is too late. This is the fault of the people, not the hospital and representatives. WAKE UP!

For the record, I don't agree with the hospital's decision. I think it will be a burden on the community. Unfortunatly, the hospital simply felt that with the birth rate going down and the large number of people without insurance that it could not afford to keep the Birthing Center open and felt that the Med Center was a viable option for the community.

Now you have a meglo-maniac like Angie Odom playing the part of hero right before the election so that people will tell her how great she is. I am pretty sure the sound of her own voice gives her the ol' uterus quivers.

And you sir are example #1. There is no free market for health care in this country: government controls who can build hospitals where based on "certificates of need," and similarly controls whether and when those hospitals can shut down existing services. It's a trade-off: big corporations like MSHA get a monopoly, but in return they can't rob people of services on a whim EVEN IF it would improve their bottom line.

What is supposed to happen when a monopolist health care group like MSHA tries to shut down services is that our representatives at the county and especially state level counterbalance their bottom line by representing our interests. What happened here what that MSHA paid Kent Williams $250 in campaign money THE SAME DAY he wrote his letter, and Rusty Crowe his normal salary, to be their bag men against the needs of the people. Their letters parrot the same language and were likely written by a MSHA goon.

Our county leaders could have and should have called a public meeting on the subject but did not. That is incompetence but it was also Williams' and Crowe's job to apprise them of their state law options--which they did not because again they were bought and paid for.

You are right though that we do share some blame for not piecing the puzzle together. But we all have our own jobs and families and Angie and the Women's Center have theirs. It used to be that our newspapers and our good public officials would bring these things to our attention more clearly and loudly. Now the former are shills and the latter don't exist, replaced by cronies like Kent Williams and Rusty Crowe.

We can fry Rusty's butt in 2014 and Williams' on Tuesday.

But it was in the papers and on the news. I remember seeing it and thinking to myself that it was probably a bad idea. But apparently, the hospital and the state agreed that this was something that could be done with minimal consequence. Even though government regulates and licences these health providers, These companies are not in business to lose their butts so they make cuts that are deemed acceptable to both sides. I understand that people are busy in their own lives, but if this was such a high priority then why was there complete silence from the public. People don't seem to have any problem gathering by the thousands for highschool football games, so not even a few people could get together on this. You mean to tell me that NOBODY knew anything about this until Angie "look at me I am special" Odom used her super-human investigative skills to uncover this conspiracy. I'm sure that if the constituency had brought more attention to the situation Crowe and Williams may have reacted differently. But we will never know because American Idol is on.

The fact that you think someone could be bought off for $250 is just stupid as well. If that were the case then it would be legal for me to walk around town naked.

I am just puzzled that Angie Odom is all in a tizzy now that horses have already gotten out of the barn. Oh yeah, and 4 days before the election. It is because Angie Odom is all about one thing...Angie Odom.

Just curious..I've heard about abortion alternatives in conversation but have no clue what it is. Is that a counseling center or something? Just curious, was it affiliated with he Birthing Center? I don't know what it is or who Angie Odom is.

I know Angie Odom and if she was about herself she wouldn't care about this. It was the place of our elected officials to let us know that we could have a town meeting with Nashville which was NEVER in ANY paper. If you read her post she didn't know about it in May. If you knew anything about her you would know why. They deliver meals all day to children May til school goes back who are in need.. Oh I guess you think that was about her too. Did you help feed anyone this summer?

Last comment for me and then I'm over it. No one knew about the letters or that we could have had a meeting to try to get Nashville to see we needed these services. They could have said no to MSHA.
Thats stuff we as citizens didn't know that Kent should have told us. It seems so people on here are just sore that the cat is out of the bag and are blaming the one that does not hold office and has nothing to gain from this.

Let me try this again. It was common knowledge that the birthing center was going to be closed this fall when MSHA made the announcement in May. This gave the public ample opprotunity to contact MSHA, state officials and local government representatives to voice concerns and see what steps could be taken to prevent this. It seems as if not a single person took the time to do this(as I said earlier, you expect the government to hold your hand). Hopefully I have explained this simply enough this time.

And yes I do contribute to charities. Sometimes it is my time but most of the time it is monetary. I just don't pat myself on the back and bring attention to myself when I do. I may be wrong, but I believe Angie, in her role at the center, gets paid for what she does so lets not pin the angle wings on her just yet. If I am wrong then I apologize for that last sentence, but I believe I am right.
