We are possibly mmoving to Quail Hollow this summer and would like to know about the coaches at Happy Valley. My daughter plays basketball and softball. I am hearing they've got new coaches. Can someone give me some info? The school is within walking distance of where we are moving.

You will be zoned elizabethton city schools if you live in quail hollow. Happy valley is a county school.

Info you are correct but their is a catch to this.
Because they pay city and county taxes and the school is in their back door they can pick and choose either. Therefore their child can go to Happy Valley or Elizabethton. Both are good schools with good coaches. I can understand picking HV because you could walk from there.

Larry Abel is the new girl's coach at Happy Valley. I'm hearing that someone from Cloudland's staff will be his assistant but I'm not sure which one. All of them are good on that staff.
Len Dugger is at Elizabethton. He has 2 or 3 good assistant coaches.

I hope this helps.

My Daughter had a 4.0 as a freshman. I don't think test scores matter if a child is doing what they should be doing in the classroom.

Three nieces went to Happy Valley excellent grades . They moved to another school district due to job situation with parents. Parents paid a lot of money to get them to grade level. Parents thought they were fine. Apparently it is more about what is being taught. Some districts are more aggressive about what is being taught.

I went to hv. You will find elizabethon is better all around. Better education, funding, and facilities. I will be sending both of my children to elizabethton. More opportunities. Hv is a dead end road.

It appears to me that Interested Parent wanted some information on the Happy Valley girl's basketball coaching staff. They didn't ask about which school was better. How this thread got off on which school is the best is beyond me. I will try and answer your question IP.

Larry Abel is the new girl's coach. He's been an assistant on the boy's and girl's staff for several years. He's a good coach and a fine man that is well liked plus he played there. The Cloudland assistant rumored coming is Rusty Chambers. The kids are excited about him coming. I have a daughter that plays. This is what Coach Abel told them when he met with them this week.

You obviously have your priorities totally screwed up if you are going to choose which school your child goes to based on the coach's reputation. High school is the final stepping stone before going to college or learning some kind of trade that will help you make it in life. Be the parent and teach your child the importance of a good education. I promise you, a year after your daughter graduates nobody will remember or care how many homeruns or baskets she made except you.

I agree with your post but it appears that IP wants her child to attend Happy Valley because of the location and that's OK. She was trying to get information on the coaching staff and somehow it gets to be a peeing contest between Elizabethton and Happy Valley. If her daughter has a 4.0 GPA then it's obvious that she has school work and sports in order. I agree that school is what one makes of it.

Good Grief... I do understand that she is considering sending her child to Happy Valley because of the location. I did not indicate otherwise. My point was simple: She should be more concerned about the reputation of the teachers instead of the reputation of the coaches. Having a 4.0 is irrelevant, and I totally disagree with you, because school is MUCH MORE than what one makes of it. If that were true then you can get the same quality education at ETSU than you can at Harvard.

The upcoming freshman class girls basketball team has never lost a game. In middle school at T A Dugger they won the substrate last year undefeted in the 8th grade and did not lose a game their 7th grade year. They played other City schools including Science Hill, Tennessee High, the schools that feed into Dobbins Bennett, Erwin, Johnson County. If she is good you want her to play with those girls, if she is just so so then, she may get more of a chance to play at Happy Valley.

That Elizabethton team also won an AAU National Championship tournament in Myrtle Beach last year. There were over 50 teams there from all across the Country.
