Local residents- this is the first time I've posted and I came across this forum randomly so please direct me in the right direction if I should be posting somewhere else.

I have been a resident/homeowner of Elizabeth, NJ for almost 15 years on North Avenue.

Two weeks ago, I just so happened to notice that there is a new sign that says we are not allowed to park on the street every week day from 7-9 AM. There was no communication on this matter and it is a huge issue for properties on this street that do not have a driveway, as is the case of many properties because one whole side of the street - from the train station to the highway is two family houses. You can imagine that even those houses with a driveway cannot have all cars park in the driveway either way.

It is an inconvenience for residents who do not need to wake up at 6:50 AM to move their cars and even more of an inconvenience if you take mass transit to work and cannot block your residents in because you have no street parking and cannot move the car at 9 AM when you are at work an hour away.

What can be done about this?

Totally agree. What is the purpose of this extremely inconvenient parking rule? The only thing I can think of is to alleviate congestion during morning rush hour. But congestion has never been a big problem in the past. Furthermore, I think residents would much prefer to deal with a little morning traffic than to have the already limited parking further limited. Also, if congestion is in fact the reason for this rule, then why also include the weekend?

It is ridiculous that no information was communicated to residents prior to implementing this new rule.
