Civil unions for gay couples was a rallying cry for Democrats who took control of the Colorado House in last year's elections and vowed an early vote on the proposal.

So... you're argument here boils down to one thing: you consider offering gay couples the same marital benefits we pay for through taxes "wasteful government spending"? Now that is some seriously twisted logic.
There are no couple's rights in the constitution. Gender equality failed, you may not bring gender segregation to perfectly integrated and diverse male/female marriage.

Reform taxes not marriage.

Then I propose the definition of marriage for legal purposes is the following: "Marriage is the familial union between two otherwise unrelated adults in a relationship characterized by monogamy."
Then do it through legislation or referendum, not unelected judges. Colorado wants you to have civil unions and reserve marriage for husband and wife.

We'll do it through legislation like we did in 3 states, and the courts like we did in 3 states, and even with referendums like we did in 3 states.

Whatever it takes we'll get the right to marry nationwide. It's only a matter of time.

Either way; we don't affect straighties lousy marriages
.
If we are denied equality; then we will turn our focus to gay tax exemption and refunds for all the years we have paid for benefits we were denied
.

<quoted text>Same sex marriage isn't about equality, homosexuals have always married under the same laws as everyone else. I've cited Oscar Wilde and Meredith Baxter as two examples. There is no orientation test for a marriage license. Every states allow homosexuals to cohabit while some states make polygamists felons. There is no ban on religious same sex marriage when many states make adult brother/sister marriage a felony. Homosexuals aren't second class citizens but some same sex marriage supporters want the special right to rewrite marriage law for all.
Same sex marriage is bad because it harms gays.
To be clear, I have no interest in government involvement in social institutions. Leave the government out of it. However, when somebody tells you that you cannot attend your own husband's funeral, jointly adopt, file taxes, or combine credit, then we have problems. If it helps to clarify the matter, then I think government ought to get out of the marriage business and simply issue civil unions with all the same rights that a marriage license currently affords to couples.

What does any of this have to do with gender segregation? This is not Iran.

I just want government to stop interfering in my personal business. If I decide I want to buy a house with my husband, I do not want our assets to be penalized for it, or suddenly discover our access to credit is limited by an inability to combine our assets. These policies put people like me and my husband at an economic disadvantage. We pay more taxes, more lawyer fees, and have to fill out more paperwork just to manage our finances in the routine way couples do.

Separate is not equal
.
So husband and wife should be civil unions too
.
Toss your marriage license in the shredder and get civil-unionized

And by the way, my great grandmother is still alive even though I'm well into my 30s. She has always supported gay marriage. Makes the most awesome chicken and dumplings too.:)

Changing marriage law changes the law for everyone, not just the tiny minority of same sex couples who would 'marry'. Keeping marriage one man and one woman protects marriage for everyone, especially for the homosexuals who would be harmed most.

Yes of course it changes the law for everyone, it creates a equal fair field that every person has a chance to participate in. but due tell how (Keeping marriage one man and one woman protects marriage for everyone, especially for the homosexuals who would be harmed most)I really want you to explain what harm a homosexual will experience,

That line of reasoning was silly when applied to interracial marriage, and it's just as silly here.

You are confused. Equal protection under the law is indeed covered, unless you can find an exemption for "couple law" or even gender.

I've searched and I can't find the exemption clauses you keep talking about for gender and marriage law.

Really?

In what way?

Will straight people everywhere be forced to marry people of the same gender in order receive government recognition of their unions? Can you pinpoint ANY place where such a thing is in danger of happening?

Because of your terrors about gay folks marrying, you want to change the very makeup of our Government to prohibit ALL judges from ruling on the constitutionality of ANY law?

That's just nuts.

Again, PROVE the harm. Provide stats and studies that are verifiable, please.

How are gay couples harmed by legal recognition of their unions? How are their children harmed by having married parents?

How are gay youth harmed by knowing they can marry in the future?

How are elderly gay couples harmed by the added emotional and financial protections marriage brings.

If you are going to make such an absurd proclamation, you need to provide valid proof.

How does marriage harm ONLY gay couples and their families, while benefiting similarly situated straight couples and their families?

And yet you are unable to specifiy how an opposite-sex couple's marriage is changed because their gay neibhors got married.

Or how gay people are harmed by getting married.

Sounds like more B.S. anti-gay rhetoric.
