Just wait until these truckers start causing deaths along our highways with bad driving or not chaining up or driving in bad weather they have never experienced. Just wait till their insurers don't pay up after a bad fatal wreck. As a professional
driver I assure you people are going to die due to these 'unprofessional' operators.

If the government can outsource the trucking industry in this country. Then they can surely outsource most jobs in america. Someone needs to put an end to this before it even begins. America gains nothing from NAFTA.

I just about fell out of my chair when I actually saw a story being done on this issue on my local T.V. station! Not only on 9news, but on channel 7 as well! On 7 though there was a DOT puppet completely lying, stating that ALL Mexican trucks will be stopped at the border and inspected. BOLD FACE LIE!!! They can't inspect the trucks going through now, how the heck are they going to with a few thousand more trucks added to the mix?

This has been an ongoing concern for my family...if ya didn't get the hint by my nickname. We have been following this issue since Clinton was in office. We're not too happy with the whole NAFTA thing, but I'll give the guy credit, he at least realized that Mexico's uninsured, unsafe and unregulated trucking industry would be a problem.

Clinton gave Mexico 13 years to comply to U.S. trucking laws and regulations. In that time they did nothing to reach that goal. In fact, they had the nerve to try and sue the U.S. over the Murray/Shelby provisions...stating that we were going against NAFTA agreements. Go ahead...google NAFTA...we were not. The U.S. reserved the right within the pages of NAFTA to keep the American public safe.

Fast forward to ole Bushie boy and his big business cronies. He used the threat of being sued to take action and go ahead and open up the border beyond the 25 mile buffer zone Mexico is allowed now. Nevermind Mexico has not taken a single step to comply.

So for the past year or so the Teamsters, OOIDA and a few other trucking groups have been trying to push a bill through that would put a stop to this action. This bill, H.R. 1773, Safe American Roads Act was passed by Congress May 20th of this year. It pretty much states that an independent panel will be investigating whether Mexican trucks and trucking companies participating in the pilot program are in full compliance with U.S. trucking laws and safety standards. It will also determine if our borders, inspectors and DOT are capable of inspecting the increased number of incoming trucks.

And what our WONDERFUL media has done is completely forget to mention that ole Bushie boy has taken the opportunity while Congress is on a late summer break to completely defy this bill and sneak an action that would allow these Mexican trucks onto all of our U.S. highways and local roads. He claims these Mexican trucking companies have passed a "paper inspection" and are set and ready to enter the U.S.

And now our courts are siding with Bush. These trucks could be on our roads as early as Sept. 6th.

I am begging all of you to do a little research in this matter. This is a safety issue, it is an economical issue. Have your little Smoky and the Bandit stereotypes of them...but like it or not truckers are the blood flow of this country. There is not one single item in your home that was not at one time on a truck. It is the industry that builds and moves this country. Already companies are standing in line to hire these Mexican companies at a cheaper rate. Our own company is looking at losing two major contracts pending what happens with this issue. We will be forced to lay off FIVE U.S. DRIVERS...good people with families to support.

There is no data base in Mexico that keeps record of who these people are. Days before the anniversary of 9/11 our border is open and bleeding. Homeland security? I think not.

This is NOT a racial issue. It is a safety issue, it is an economic issue.

Right now there is a movement among U.S. truckers of a complete and total shutdown...something that radical to bring this issue to the attention of the American people. I beg of you all...don't let it come down to that. Spread the word of this issue. Demand that the media cover it, and get the FACTS RIGHT! Contact your elected officials and tell them to put a stop to this action.

This is ridiculous. The National news reported on this using the deceptive language that 100 truckers would be allowed in. The fact is 100 trucking COMPANIES are allowed to send their trucks here, up to 1000 in this first experimental year.

I can't believe the moronic Bush administration would allow this. It seems obvious that drug runners and human traffickers will seize this opportunity to expand their routes into the country using Mexican truckers, especially with the increased enforcement along the border.

Another story not being reported in the local news is a judge in California ruled that the government cannot send out no-match letters to employers of illegal aliens. So once again the Federal government will fail to enforce that law. Except for a few members of Congress, it seems that no one in the government cares about what the average citizen thinks.

This was a topic on the board a few months ago after Congress passed that bill. I am outraged that is once again is an issue.

This is the beginning of the end of the U.S. trucking industry.

It happened to me with construction, and now this.

Bush is out of control. I'm a lifelong Republican and I'm finding myself using the word impeach more and more often lately.

Does this mean all the traffic signs on the highway will have to be in Spanish? You know, like they do at WALMART? This really makes me sick as my husband is an American Citizen and he's a trucker also. So, lets put all the American Citizens out of work and pay a lesser salary to these Mexicans. Is there a pattern here? Gosh, last time i looked for employment one of the requirements was that I speak Spanish. I don't and I won't. THIS IS THE USA

BUMP!!!!

Truckers wife had a lot of good points that I think others should see. I'm unable to cut and paste her post in the other Mexican trucking post.

I have contacted Salazar's office by email and phone already this morning. I urge all of you to do the same.

I'm not a trucker, but I will stand by them in protest in regards to this issue. This crosses both party lines and it's time we stand together against Washington and tell them enough is enough!

As stated in the other forum on this topic

If I wasn't afraid to loose my job to some illiagle mexican I would go stand at the border and protest against this. This is completly avoidable. If people would speak out more then in this forum maybe just maybe someone would listen.

Contact your elected officials and voice your opinion on this matter. That will help.

Also, contact the media and demand that this issue be reported correctly. The more American's know about this issue the better. It crosses both party lines.

I agree with you. Look at the safety concerns alone, let alone another way to cut into the U.S. job market. I still think this is a great country, but it seems like "our President" ignores common sense and pushes his own agenda based on lies and trampling on constitutional rights!

We need to stop sniping at each other and band together against the onslaught of ignorance poring over our southern border and infecting our government. Clinton ( one of, if not the worst Presidents we ever had )started it, and Bush appears to be a turncoat. We need to stop the Mexicans, period!!
In so many of these forum threads it seems like at least 99% of those posting are against what the government is doing in relationship to Mexico, illegals and everything else involved. We all talk about the need to do something, but nothing is being done?!! Maybe it's time for a real March on Washington. Unfortunately, it would probably turn out to be a dud like the marches against the illegals. Why?

I hope you republican's are happy with what you created. Don't admint your a republican to me in person, i'll have to punch you in your mouth and i'm ready for whatever consenquences i have to deal with.
And it's the democrats who keep pushing for more illegals to come in and amnesty for the millions already here. I'm not happy with republicans either but we aren't getting anything done griping here.

<quoted text> I agree too! The Mexicans don't obey any of our other laws, why should we expect them to obey the NAFTA laws.
The really sad thing is that we were warned long ago about this. Yet no one acted. Although what could we do? We're just the people.
Our government f$%cked us Sad...
And isn't that why that "private party" wants to condemn and take away farmers and ranchers land in Colorado and elsewhere in order to build a nice big super highway from Mexico to Canada? I'll bet the government will back him in the land grab because it is $$$$$$. He not only wants the land wide enough for a 4-lane hiway, but he wants it 25 acres wide so he and his cronies (probably many government officials) to be able to build all the businesses along that hiway. It doesn't matter that the land owners (some whose families have owned and farmed the land for over 100 years), they will "condemn" it and take it away for the cronies' profits. Just another step in our losing our country.

How about this - Head over to your local Sapp Brothers, Johnson's Corner, etc. and look for trucks with Mexican plates.

I have contacted Salazar's office numerous times about this and other issues pertaining to Mexico and illegals to no avail. All I get is form letters back assuring me of all the good things he is doing for his constiuents. Don't think he even reads my letters or hears my phone calls. There are numerous sites on the thread about illegal immigration where you can sign you name to a petition against this sort of thing (numbers.usa is one of them.

I have also contacted his office and others' offices and either get form letters or something stating that we need everything imported for people to be able to afford something. Don't know how anyone here can afford anything when they can't get jobs. And don't tell me it is because noone will take the lower paying jobs. I've tried for them and cannot get the low-paying jobs because I am an American citizen and they are all going to foreigners.
