Woodard can be trusted to not raise taxes and I believe Owens will raise them.

I don't believe in career politicians, which Owens is.

Rep Bill Owens Offshore Investments

Democrat Rep. Bill Owens (NC House District 1) was recently caught for failing to report real estate properties he owns as required by state ethics laws, specifically three properties in Wake and Nash counties. This is an infraction of the law, and I am not excusing it, but in this particular instance, I don't see it as a big issue. I don't know that he received any kind of benefit by omitting the listings, and the political hit he will probably take won't help him, either. Of much greater concern to me as a campaign issue is "his extensive holdings in the Dominican Republic, which includes several condos and commercial buildings," (which BTW, he did declare.)

Democrats always raise such a big stink about corporations shipping jobs overseas. Well isn't shipping investment capital overseas just as bad? I don't fault the representative for using a legal means to avoid paying excessive taxes. It just seems a bit HYPOCRITICAL for a Democrat to be doing it. I guess it's, "Do as I say, not as I do." The Dems want everyone to pay higher taxes except themselves. This goes to his character far more than a few omissions from a government form.

Representative Bill Owens (NC House District 1) has failed to report all of his real estate holdings on his Statement of Economic Interest (SEI), as required by North Carolina law. The law requires public servants to disclose all personal financial interests over $10,000 so as to avoid potential conflicts of interest. According to online public records, Representative Owens has not disclosed property owned by him in Wake and Nash Counties.

His most recent long-form SEI (filed in 2009) can be found Carolina Transparency’s website. The State Ethics Commission confirms that no amendments were filed in 2009. His 2010 Form is a No-Change Form.

Below are a few of the properties owned by Representative Owens that have not been disclosed.

Wake County:

1505 Hillsborough St B G17 purchased in 2007. Taxable value $146,000
301 Fayetteville Street #3201 purchased in 2008. Taxable value $488,00. This is a condo in the RBC Tower in Raleigh.
Nash County

1805 Boone Street purchased in 2009. Taxable value $158,000
Clearly Mr. Owens is aware of the requirement to disclose his real estate holdings. He did report on his extensive holdings in the Dominican Republic, which includes several condos and commercial buildings. He also disclosed his multitude of properties in Granville, Wake, Nash, Wayne and Pasquotank Counties. His Pasquotank holdings include the Waterworks Building on Water Street in Elizabeth City.

Knowingly providing incomplete information on a Statement of Economic Interest Form is a Class 1 Misdemeanor. The offender is also subject to disciplinary action.

When reached for comment on the matter, Representative Owens confirmed that he owned the properties. After researching the matter Mr. Owens stated that his office had inadvertently left them off the form. He stated,“I certainly had no knowledge of it.”
