"Drugs, schools (Children), incumbent could do more..." They seem like catch phrases and fear points to me. The thing that sticks out most is the challengers' declaration that he can do better. If he has the initiative and the know-how, and has seen the effects first hand in schools, I want to know what he did about it! He mentioned increased punishments for first time offenders, so what happened to those kids who failed to get scholarships due to drug use under his supervision?

The biggest issue with Norrell's stance against Susan Johnson is that his own agenda for a local war on drugs is behind the times. Around the country draconian drug laws are being wiped from the books because they don't make sense. As a citizen of currituck the last thing i want to see my tax dollars go toward is the harrassment of non-violent pot smokers in the area. Also questionable is the notion of stiffer punishment for first time offenders. I think he would be destroying more scholarships and creating more young currituckians with less options. Is anyone still afraid of pot?

This campaign announcement was out of the dark times. When does the sheriff get to decide punishment? Keep your day job in Va, Norrell.

Do it for the kids Norrell? Having known his own children, now young adults, I can't imagine THEY support his proposed drug war. They surely didn't when they were in high school.

I think that before people draw judgement against Mr Norrell they really need to educate themselves on what his stance on the issues really are. He is Not for harsher punishment for first time offenders and he actually has the expierence needed to make our community one that can grow and bring in more families into our area. I think that we need someone that knows police work versus a gloried admistrator that was only appointment to the position by our pervious sheriff was corrupt and resigned his position due to abuse. Mrs Johnson is leading down us down a path were every officer is happy to pass the buck and their solutin for any conplaint from theft to assults, and drug incidents, is that it is not worth their time to follow up. I know for a fact that our officers a told not to potrol certain areas were dealers live and sell to our children because it is too dangerous. I think our children deserve better than to live in a community were anyone from Virginia and NC can come and purchase drugs and know that the police will not do anything to them. We need to be a more educated community instead of turning a blind eye to the problems that are there and being placated by lies.

I live in the county as well and I have personally known former detective Norell for over 20 years as he was the lead homicide detective in Norfolk, VA for manyyears as well as a narcotics officer before. People in Currituck don't realize that this is something that is not small scale anymore. You can't deal with drugs and other crimes in Currituck like you have dealt with them years ago. He has experience in "city" drug activity as now Currituck County can be included in this "city" drug activity.

It does not matter who is put in the job, the damage is done. Our home has been destroyed by a hand full of greedy people from the past and present who have gotten rich bring trash here to live.

I have been in Curriuck all my life and have seen Sheriff's come and go. Susan Johnson has been and will continue to be more productive than anyone else that has held this position. If you would like to verify this FACT, you may do so by simply going to the Sheriffs Office and request any information you need to prove what she has done for not only her deputies (training) but for our community and for our children. As far as your quote concerning potrolling, you have no idea what your talking about, because I know for a fact they do. By the way I would rather have a glorified admistrator (also a huge part of a sheriffs role in a department) that knows exactly what she is doing and has done a wonderul job at it for 10 years than someone who knows the law but gets arrested for communicating threats.

Mr. Norrell if you want to get drugs off the streets....start with your own neighborhood (Carolina Highlands). You are aware that two of your neighbors and supports have been convicted of trafficking and felony possession. They have been arrested several times and convicted....the sheriffs department did their job....maybe you should take up drug dealers on the streets with the DA's office. The narcotics unit consist of three officers who alone get more drugs off the streets and have the highest arrest numbers in the first judicial district.

Please clarify and support your comment about being arrested.

I couldn't agree more! Moyock was MUCH better when we had Eagle Market and the old hardware store!

Does anyone remember the letter Teresa Norrell wrote about 4 years ago? She was very critical of Currituckians. It was very degrading. If I had any doubt about whom to vote for, the resurfacing of that letter has put any doubt to rest.

It was 8 years ago and she's since apologized. People change. Get over it and move on. Support whomever you choose and keep it clean.

I know first hand about the Currituck sheriff department. The two Detectives AKA terrorist that work for her. I believe there names to be Houston and Capps. They completely trump up charges on someone I went to church with. Thank God we have intelligent prosecutors and judges who saw though the BS. The only terrorist in Currituck County NC are those detectives. The mind can play tricks on people but for them to then use there badge to make up stuff against someone is sad. Please fire those guys!!
