Maybe if the people of this town would move to the 21 st century and allow business's here the tax base would be higher and would not lose libraries etc. I guess the saying about Elgin is correct The only thinkg that will change this city is a funeral.

This hick town is the most backwards place I've ever lived. City growth does not have to be a bad thing. It's a shame but I'd rather drive 30 miles into Austin than to go to the only crowded, dirty, poorly stocked grocery store here in town.
No growth, no potential for growth, substandard schools, I could KICK myself for moving to this town.
When I moved here six years ago, I thought it had so much potential for growth and development. Sadly, I'm mistaken.
In the meantime, I'm stuck in a home that has DECREASED in value and no one in their right mind would buy it anyway, because there's no incentive for homebuyers to move out here.

I have my regrets also; however if people that alos have the same feelings change can be made. FIrst get involved in city council meetings after one visit you will see change is needed, second watch what the elected officials are doing and lets put new ones in. 3rd do as I do BOYCOTT the services that are so negligently provided HEB for example. It is worth driving to Taylor or Austin for food that is not past dated, spoiled or not supplied. Change can happen.

I want to know why we have an animal licensing ordinance that we do not enforce, The city has no way of licensing the animals and tracking them the Elgin Humane Society has offered to provide this service and that alone would bring in at least $16,000.00 a year in revenues not collected for at least 5 years and counting

I lived in Elgin for 23 years, and relocated to Arkansas a year ago. Elgin WAS going down hill.
So now I have relocated to another HICK town in Arkansas! I mainly moved here for the beautiful
scenery and the low cost of living. The people
mainly suck, but I'm pretty happy.
It was an absolute MIRACLE that I sold my Elgin property after having it on the market a year and a half. I knocked down the price a LOT so I could
get out of there.
