Does anyone know how many people have been killed on highway 95 between Bastrop and Elgin, or know how I can find out? I just moved here three years ago and I know of at least 4. I think someone at one of the local newspapers needs to do a story on it....maybe scare people into driving less crazy....??? I was standing in my backyard the last time there was a fatal accident and heard the crash (just this morning)...it was so scary and disturbing.

I don't know, but I ride that road everyday to work. I have lived in Bastrop over 10 years and it is getting more frequent. I had to take a long detour to work on May 7th due to the accident you heard. I had hoped that it turned out better and was just an injury. There are so many crosses on that road. And it is all due to people driving like idiots.

On June the 1st arountd 10pm my brother-in-law was comming home from work and was a passenger on HWY 95. When two cars came up behind them slamming into the truck and made it Flip and slide along the hwy. Not only did they not stop. They both fled the scean of an accident, leaving a boy of 16 who was bleeding from his head, and an arm full of glass. Now it is two our belief, that both cars where drunk drivers racing...Now you tell me how crule can you be to leave 2 people in the middle of the street badly hurt at the cause of your own hands..So what I'm asking is if anyone knows of who has had an accidet in there car or truck has been totaled, to call the Bastrop Police and tell them that you beleive that this person was involved in the hut and run accident on June 1st with the red truck, they should know whats going on. As JUSTICE needs to be done. And to the Qusetion on this page All Druck drivers sholud be charged. On the first account. Lets try and stop this crazy drunk driving on HWY 95 that involves inocent lives at there stupid hands..

We live in a subdivision on Hwy 95 and today and yesterday we've had some real window rattling sonic booms. The sound seems to be coming from the Camp Swift area.

Are they by chance shooting some large caliber guns over there...?

Would just like to know how long this is going to last so I can keep the dogs, who are just freaking out, in the house.

As of Janaury 1, 2007 I was able to count as many roadside crosses as there are miles between Elgin and Bastrop. That means there has been at least one death per mile of roadway. I believe there have been more deaths since January 1 as well so that up the death per mile average.

It is unbelievable the number of deaths and accidents on highway 95. The percentage must be much higher than other roads.

It is easy enough to complain about, but what is the solution? Would changing it to four lanes fix things? Do we need periodic traffic lights just to slow traffic?

I have been hearing the loud booms as well. Loud enough to shake windows but I have lived near air force bases before and it didn't sound like a sonic boom, more like an explosion of some sort.

I go down to Elgin about twice a year from Dallas. Does anyone know why Tx 95 was reduced to two lanes from four ? I am refering to the section between North Elgin and the Williamson County line.

I was riding in my work van With my driver and we went right beside the accident on hwy 71 by exxon, and sonic. We heard the impact when it happened a couple of cars from us. We saw the car in the grass. and the truck was fliped over. I read the article in austin newspaper. It said only a 21 year old boy was killed and the truck driver had minor injuries. It a horrible sight. Noone would want to see that ever. The car was under the truck. The car hydroplated and hit the truck when it happened. THe truck couldnt stop and ran over him. IT was wet and rainy really bad. We just say a prayer and hopefully hes in GOd's care now. thanks...

Camp Swift is an active training site for Texas National Guard. There has been live ammunition testing and troop training for years there. I'm surprised (not) your real estate agent didn't mention this to you.

You live next to a military installation. It's been there since the early 40's so it's not like you can say it was not there when you bought your home. The military makes noise. Usually quite a bit of it. If you don't like it move back to Austin. As for 95, we've called it the Highway-o-death since I was in Highschool back in the 70's. Most of the folks that drive it are corteous. I pull into the median to let faster traffic pass and appreciate it when others do the same.

They actually added a right shoulder on both sides of the highway to the 95 area you are talking about. It is better to have the shoulders in case of an emergency. Just before dark one day, I saw a bus broke down on a stretch of that roadway and they were stuck right below a hill in the right hand lane and because of no shoulder, they were in danger of being hit. There was no area to pull off the road for them. I did call the Elgin police to come assist them. Now that there is a shoulder, it is better in case of an emergency.
