If you did not attend Elgin's Cenntennial Celebration yesterday, you missed a beautiful, fun filled day. There were arts and crafts vendors, live music, food and drink, of course, a parade to kick it off. Chairperson, Shirley Stockman Miles, came up with this idea and has diligently worked with her many committees since last year for this tribute to Elgin, S.C. There will be a beautiful clock installed in front of the new Elgin Town Hall and bricks are still on sale to support the purchase of the town clock. A clock is quite fitting for this Kershaw County town. Elgin was originally named Blaney, but when the Elgin Watch Factory moved there in the 1960's, residents opted to change the name to Elgin, in honor of the complany who employed many residents. I was impressed with the history, the people, the celebration and future tributes to Elgin.
Way to go!
