Kershaw Sewage System Troubles Cause Scandal

Full story: WLTX Columbia

For years now, Kershaw County has had issues with it's sewer system. It's the same system that's been in place since the 60s and 70s.

Sounds like something a SC Republican would cook up. I bet the accused are not guilty and are pillars of the community with long public service records, so there must be some mistake. Yeah right.
republicans are constantly trying to rip off the public with their "fees" instead of "taxes" fixes.
Who cleaned up the sewer spill? Big $$$ bucks were spent for that contract I bet. A bunch of Crooks posing as responsible government officals. Sounds like free market republicans to me. anything for a buck, public health be damned

This article is riddled with misconceptions and false statements. Shame on WLTX for posting it in the first place. You need to gather all the facts before publishing articles.

This is the good 'ole boy system at its finest. The administrator did this at someone else's direction. I wonder who that was? Could it have been the chairman of County Council?

Free Bobby Boland!Free Russell Wright! Free the "Kershaw 2" from captivity and let them return to doing what they do best.(Making the county look like a bunch of backwoods, 3-tooth hillbillies). What kind of lunatics are we dealing w/ here? You mean to tell me these scientists were willing to throw away their names and careers over some petty small-town political issue like this??????? Please help us all!

There was nothing in the WLTX article that was false, I don't know where you get your information from. Wait a minute, is this Steve Kelly (head honcho of the crooks)?

And you sure sound arrogant. Must be hard on people to be in your presence and never measure up to your nose stuck up there on that ceiling.

And none of you guys live here like I do!! All hail Camden, we have the MOST crooked of the crooked politians in this town. And worse yet, they are all related or married to's so we're screwed all the way around. We have to call the media out of town and bring attention to ourselves, however embarassing, to get anything accomplished. God help the little man!

I bet whoever gets the contract for this elaborate sewer project is kin or married to someone on the board or getting a kick back.

I have lived in Camden my entire life. It is a town filled with "good old boy" politics. The past and present government system is filled with affluent decision makers and property owners/developers who are closely linked to each other, along with banking officials, council members, lawyers, hospital/school board members, etc.

It is a carefully practiced system in which the wealthy scratch each other's backs and place each other in high ranking positions in the county and city of Camden governments. Schools and other large projects are built on properties owned by those in high places and are built by their network of friends/family as well.

The problem for this system that has caused them to attack in desperation is that the West Wateree area (Lugoff and Elgin) is growing at an amazing rate. The old money families of Camden know that their time of free reign over the people of Kershaw County is limited because others with fresh ideas across the Wateree river (with a larger population) is starting to assert their own ideas. The old guys feel threatened and are lashing out with unsubstantiated threats.

Good riddance to any of those "good old boys", and may this just be the start of a new day in Kershaw County!!
