I think we have to teach them a hard work ethic in the classroom, as well as in the job place .

We can't allow ourselves to wait on the Gov't to support us. We handicap ourselves by not taking advantage of the education afforded us in this state after high School. We also must be better parents. Kids deserve parents who are there for them 24/7.

Maybe when we stop convincing black kids that it's "uncool" to read, learn, have good manners, and be successful, they'll start trying a little harder. Right now, any black kid who tries to do good in school, speak proper English, or dress decent gets accused of trying to "be white." Etiquette is a game EVERYONE must play in order to be successful... it's not a "white thing."

It's not any different than being white and a teen. Being anything and a teen is tough these days because they make it tough.

What I seen by watching this on tv was that some of these kids had good thoughts but they also want to separate themselves from the whites by going to all black college. How is that not racist? Had my white child said he wanted to go to an all white school, He would have had the name of being a racist. If its ok for a black to want an all black school, then why can't a white have an all white school? Theres no difference! Anyway I do wish all these kids a successful and happy future.

I am outraged. What the he77 kind of article is this??? This is not a way to get through to BLACK AMERICANS. WLTX, there is no such thing as an African American unless they were actually born first in Africa. The term is incorrect and I believe you know it.

How stupid is everyone??!! By drawing lines, black lines, we only show our differences. Articles like this do nothing to show what black Americans have in common with everyone that they claim to 'seek equality' with. You don't show how equal you are by continually pointing out dissimilarities and drawing race lines. This title disgusts me, and if it were not for the forums, I would stop reading WLTX all together for writing this kind of crap. I don't care how slow the news is!!! Red and yellow, black and white, we are precious in His sight...

To the black Americans that participated in this study, shame on you. You just set your race back another 50 years. Again. I have breaking news for you: THINGS ARE ROUGH ALL OVER!! The color of your skin does not entitle you to anything special, any type of reparation BS, since many black Americans have original roots in Europe.

These type of articles are run either by VERY poor reporters and editors or they are run by interns. It is outrageous that there is a story, an entire story devoted to how different black teens are from everyone else but "they don't get any special treatment". Well, that's what they want, that's what they'll get. Special treatment. Not equality. You cannot have both, so chose one and let's move on to a more intelligent topic.

I hope WLTX plans on doing follow up stories on Caucasian-American Teens, Korean-American Teens, Native-American, German-American, Japanese-American, Chinese-American, Irish-American, Scottish-American, Czech-American, Russian-American, Ukrainian-American, Indian-American, and how 'bout one on regular American teens and not offend anybody??? Stop putting people into groups.

Unless you were born in the country you claim first as your nationality, you are not of that nationality and are most likely 'just' and American. Yep, like everyone else. We are all immigrants, we are all mutts, we are all Americans.

WLTX, think twice before doing another article like this one. You do more damage than you realize.

If anything, I think this story shows that black teens are pretty much the same as teens across the country...regardless of color. So maybe the story should have just been about teens in general.

However...considering how so many (not ALL) posters are eager to assume and post stereotypes about how most (or all) black people are lazy, don't want to do what others do, sit on their behinds and collect welfare, are willing participants in the "thug life" with no ambitions for anything else, etc., perhaps this will be a much-needed wakeup call for THEM...but as I said earlier, the ideas in this story were already obvious to rational, open-minded thinkers.

He had a different viewpoint from what I said, but how is it racist? I am a bit confused. I can agree to disagree (another thing that makes us American). Maybe it's just too late in the evening for me, but I just don't feel a racial tone. What did you perceive?

Any call for blacks to use what intellect they have over their biological urges will be roundly criticized by everyone as racist.
The best approach is to just go through the motions and stuff them into their ghetto schools, then lock 'em up as soon as they commit their first violent crime. Dat beez keepin it reel, yo.
Blacks can't stand living in a modern technologically advanced society, it constantly reminds them of their backwardness. Just let them do what they do, then lock 'em up.
They can't be expected to be held to the same standards as normal people.
Ah, I see the type of person you are, and I am sorry I spoke to you in the first place. YOU are the one spewing racist comments, so examine yourself before you blast others for doing the same thing. Go away.

Do White Teens not face the same trials as black teens. I know plenty of White Teens that are tempted with drugs and drinking on a daily basis.

Seriously, the majority of the black community needs to realize they are not the only ones who face trials and tribulations. They have a much larger advantage in today's world. They can claim a hate crime, or discrimination for just about anything. They have more scholarship opportunities, they just have to go out there and attempt to get them. Those are just a couple of ways they have an advantage on the whites, but there are many others.
On this particular topic, I grew up with just as many if not more white people tempted by drugs/alcohol. When you have more money to buy it, you buy more of it. With that being said, a lot of them also were able to overcome the struggle, because of the way they were raised. Most of them had parents who knew how to straighten them out.
I think good parenting is what needs to be taught in the black community, instead of 'this is how the whites hold us down, and they are why we are the way we are'.

Of course they do but if the article would have been about whites, the NAACP, Al and Jesse would be beating down the door!! There would be marches being organized! This is a story that should never had made news! African-Americans......bu11sh* t. They are black Americans and nothing more. If they want to be equal, they need to quit trying to be different!

Hey Mort Sahl, we get it. Your social satire on the value system of blacks and whites is spot on! Congrats. Now say something of real substance, please. You're act is getting old.

Great, then tell the U.S. quit treating them as different. The day I see a group of black teens standing on a street corner treated the same as a group of white teens on a street corner is the day they need to stop trying to be "different", whatever the f*ck that means...

Agree-

you cannot use two nationalities unless you have aquired citizenship in more than one country.

If you were born in the United States, you are an AMERICAN...like it or not.
