Cosmo, we've had this discussion before. It all boils down to, who are you going to help? We have American citizens living homeless in our streets and starving. We have American children who have to share textbooks in a classroom of 35+ kids and cannot read or write because the school district is paying for additional ESL teachers. We have high unemployment because American citizens cannot find a job, due to the fact that illegal aliens have stolen all the unskilled jobs.

It's sad, it's a shame that Mexico and other third world countries have neither the resources nor the competent leadership to help their own citizens. But when did we become the saviors of the world? We need to focus on our own issues before solving everyone else's problems. If they aren't strong or smart enough to solve their own problems and prosper, well, sorry to say, but that's what Darwin wrote about.

Ah... the homeless on Chicago streets. No one wants to help them either. Have you read the posts on the Chicago's Homeless forum lately?

As for joblessness in the U.S., the "illegals" are taking jobs that no one else wants. They are not "stealing" the jobs. Farmers hire migrants to pick fruit because U.S. citizens won't do it for what the farmers pay. Is that the fault of the Mexican fruit picker? Employers hire illegals to clean toilets because U.S. citizens refuse won't, or the turnover for these jobs is such that employers have to hire someone they can rely on to show up every day. The joblessness in the U.S. is thanks to Bush's agenda and offshore outsourcing.

I will agree to disagree on your comment. You are spouting the same tired argument that all the pro-amnesty people say: "jobs Americans won't do." I'm not going to go into all the crappy jobs I've done over the years again, I've listed them before. I'm also not going to go into the correllation between our "lazy" teenagers not working minimum wage (fast food, retail) jobs and the influx of illegal aliens doing those jobs. I've covered that before. But I will not sit here and let you make false statements like the fruit pickers statement you made. It has been posted in many places that only 5% of illegal aliens are working in the fields. The rest are working in the restaurant, retail, and hospitality industries. These are jobs that Americans WILL do, but will only do for a fair wage. Illegal aliens will do it for less than minimum wage.

I disagree after talking to people in Mexico and how they went to school, parents encouraged them to get in the Universities, we get illegals that are uneducated in mexico because the families overbred and place no value on education..mexico does have a hard time filling positions that require education..anyone can be a dishwasher or nail a roof..they need skills

If I was in Clarendon Hills, I would probably have your same attitude towards problems in Elgin. When was the last time a high school teacher was stabbed by a student in Hinsdale? It is easy for you to not understand the problems around Elgin if you are not around here. 90% of the illegals are good people, work hard, don't bother anyone. It is the few bad ones that give them a bad name, and this guy was one of them. You get a life!
