Full story: Daily Breeze 414
Hermosa Beach didn't slay its Dragon this week, but it did stab the rowdy, mythically named bar deep in the gut by slashing operating hours. Full Story

This is amazing....I never thought the commission would have the guts to follow through on this.
The tax revenue on alcholic drinks is less than nickel a drink. I say, the city should impose a $2.00 entrance fee to any of these late night "resturants". Why they be the only one making money off the partyers.

"Moving the bar's closing time from 2 a.m. to midnight is among the more troubling conditions of the bar's revised operating permit, said attorney Bruce Evans, who called the change "potentially devastating" to his clients' business."

the lawyer has the audacity to cite potential business failure as a reason why this change is bad? he thinks his client's financial success is more important than the citizen's safety as a whole?

it is obvious dragon has been a repeat offender, taking no steps to improve until it was practically an ultimatum.

dragon sucks anyway. the pier is full of d-bags i'll admit, but i find it funny that the biggest d-bags frequent the ones cited in this artcile (blue, shore, dragon).

Everyone that has something bad to say about the bars in Hermosa needs not to go to them. It amazes me that whay now after four years all of a sudden the planning commission wants to regulate where there tax dollars come from. I think this whole thing is jealousy from the longtime bar owners,Light House,Sangaria and Patrick Malloys to name a few not getting the same business and attention from the travelers and beachgoers as Dragon is. Curious to see how much Sharkeezz have paid the city of Hermosa Beach not to be messed with when they open back up from there insurance fire fraud claim.

What a coincidence! The three bars up for review are the three places that most resemble a prison yard!

not necessarily prison yard, unless you are refering to the patrons. you def. arent referign to their "door men" because they are scrawny punks on a power trip. when will bar owners realize that their "door men" are the first level of customer interaction? in my opinion, they add to the ruckus because of their mentality.

Ron I agree 100% with you and most of these people complaining frequently go to one of the many bars on the pier. If they don't like them then don't GO!

Yes, I am referring to the patrons. I don't know any Hermosa locals, myself included, that would ever venture into one of these places after sun down on a friday or saturday night. It didn't used to be that way. Please rid us of the flat bill cap, muscle shirt, escalade driving crowds.

These bars are what makes Hermosa Beach so great and diverse. Hermosa is the Venice Beach of the Southbay providing character and an eclectic environment. If you don't like it leave. Or try Manhattan Beach, don't think you can conform Hermosa to some cheesy beach city.

response to HB Resident. I agree with you, I wish it was just an eclectic LOCAL crowd. I think we all know the type of out of the area crowd I am talking about and the trash they bring.

Fred I think you are talking about a specific day and night am I correct ? Well I think maybe those issues should be handle for those days not everyday and time of the week. If they have a country music nite on Friday and Jazz on Saturday would that be a better crowded for you ? Sunday is all Souful House music which is very peaceful and I notice you did not mention. So what do you say will that solve your issue with Dragon ?

In freds defense the security guards at those places act more like prison guards, but the crowd is all yuppies. Of course its funny how the city approved all these bars and now they are trying to put a band aid on a bullet wound. Sad!, I wish hermosa would just fade out of the spotlight and return to its normal self, like in the 80s and 90s. I dont know how people think that the more money a community makes the better it is. I think the leaders of this town just go down to the bars too much, get drunk then whip out the city check book to every big breasted blond. haha I should of ran for city council! Although the police chief is cool, he pulled me over on my whizzer motorbike and could of gave me a bunch of tickets, got a warning instead. Im just surprised the chief is walking the beat, so at least this town has that going for it.

Ron, it would be a lot easier to agree with you once you learn how to write and spell! When posts are full of misspellings and are incomprehensible, the poster loses all respect and credibility. Seriously, a spelling mistake here or there is fine, but it was just downright painful trying to read your post.

This is absolutely pathetic. Most Hermosa residents and patrons of these bars are hard working young professionals, that do not deserve there local establishments to have curfews. If I wanted to live in a slow paced beach environment, I would move to Boca Raton Florida, where the avg resident's age is 75yrs old. So for you old farts that passed this riduculous law, go take your AARP card and shove it.

Underground has the more guard-like doormen. they don't even say whats up back to you when they are checking your ID. trying to be hard as a doorman in hermosa, that's funny. i mean bro, you're a doorman, don't try to stick your chest out.

as for blue 32 the shore etc, their doormen are the metro yuppies, too.

Have you ever seen the people in line for these 3 places (Blue, Shore, Dragon) after 10pm? Have you ever read the crime section of the Beach Reporter? Hopefully, this early closing will make it not worthwile for the Escalades with rims, to make the trek to hermosa.

Rumor is, one of the security guards at underground is the guy that broke nancy kerrigans knee, if you look at the guy who did it, and the security guard they are identical!haha
