There was a promise that the city streets in Socorro were to be named after war veterans fro Socorro. Now IT seems the city council is naming the streets after Politicians from the county. Elliot Shapleigh, Jesse Gandara? Of these two men only one served in the military and not any war. Jesse hasn't served anywhere. It is time for city council to go back and properly uphold their duty and name the streets after veterans.

Veterans are not the only heroes out there. Nothing wrong with naming a street after a politician who brought home the bacon to this area. Shapleigh supports free health care for everyone which is a good thing. I think I'll call and express my support for his street.

The developers are the one's who name the street and not the residents. So stop crying about the street names you llorones!

Jesse Gandara has not brought anything home except divisiveness. He shouldn't be honored at all. The developers build the streets there and offer names to be used. It is the City Council who changed the rules not unlike those in the city council of El Paso.

Better yet, name the street after the Marx Brothers. Gracho or Harpo. I like them much better.

Reconsider your choices Socorro !!!

without millions of Vets you might not have any politicians but a czar or dictator. politicains support whats popular now tomorrow something else what do they do to keep your freedom???? Vets give their lives, limbs, and sometimes their sanity to give you the right to free speech ,vote, and get the health care you prefer. Honor your Vets today!! dont wait to put a flag on their Graves or have a paradeand wave your flags .Give them your respect and graitude Now!!!!!!!!!!

They done covered this story yesterday on Fox News in the morning. They have this show with a rooster crowing that starts pre-dawn. They covered every angle of this deal and in an in-depth manner.

My three brothers and I are all Veterans. Three of the four of us are retired. The military is challenging, and we wnet through hard times, such as, family seperations/TDYs. So it is not an easy a career as you all think. We all grew up in Socorro and our Dad was also a WW II vet, SO WHERE IS OUR STREET??? By the way, your ignorant comments will not bother me!

I figured someone would put a smart ass reply. This is why Socorro is the way it is now, because of un-educated, lack of respect Chuntaros como T-MEX. Go ahead hit me with your best shot, you will never upset me because I am better person than you can ever be.

Get over it however, thank you for your service to our greatful nation, however, doesnt mean you need a street named after you or your brothers, it's not about you.

I'd like to nominate Pedro Gomez to have a street named after him. He's a fine man who's always doing good for people and he's super smart. It would be a travesty if we can't honor him later this summer when he gets out on parole because he needs a boost of confidence and reassurance that the public still likes him.

There are alot of friends of mine who grew up in Socorro Viejo or went to Socorro Schools with me and do not have a street named after them: Hernandez, Carmona, Chavez, Pena, Serafin, Armendariz, Jurado, Perez, and so on. Let's do this!
