On this day in 1861, the Secession Convention of the state of Texas voted overwhelmingly to secede from the United States. South a'Carolina had seceded in December 1860. The election of Republican Abraham Lincoln precipitated the fall of the Southern dominoes. Fearful of Northern encroachment on traditional freedoms, and acutely aware of the South's economic dependence upon slavery, the Southern states voted one by one to withdraw from the Union. A Texas referendum to settle the legality of the move was held on February 23, 1861. The results for the state as a whole were 46,153 for secession and 14,747 against..."

And it was to the determent of the state of Texas because when the war was over the republican administration of Andrew Johnson ran a reconstruction platform which took all the rights of Texas white male citizens away and began turning all property over to the freed black by foreclosing on the properties of those Texans who fought in the war or who had brothers or fathers in the war seizing the property for "Back Taxes owed after secession." The returning soldiers were harassed and jailed at every opportunity by the republican carpet baggers and in some case murdered. This is the same Republican party now representing our state now. The same carpet baggers now under the name of the TEA PARTY Republicans.

You dirtbag carpetbagger. Cruz was born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father. So fool, he was not born in Texas or the United States. And another thing this cuban mixed Tea Bagger was never in the military and never served his "country".

Like hell. I served my country with honor and distinction and I have the certificate to prove it. You are the one who was dishonorably discharged and yet still pass yourself off as a war hero.

He is a carpetbagger who came to Texas from Canada. He is not a natural born Texas or American. He is halfazzed. you still are Juan Gomez de la voca de basura.

And I never said Cruz was not available for service because he probably got a deferment just like your hero, George W. You're just envious because he's a person of importance and power and you're stuck trying to win a scooter race for some tawdry bit of glory. Besides, at least Cruz doesn't have a butt full of venom like you do.

He never had to have a deferment as the draft was over before he was available to be picked. Guess you did not know the draft of men into the military ended at the end of Vietnam.

I was barely born when Vietnam ended do how the hell would I know that? I do know, from getting an A in history, that JFK started us down the path to war. Rather than revere him as an icon, we should place him in the same category as George W and all the other war mongers.

An A in History? Try the Last Great Victory by Stanley Weintraub where it covers the end of World War II and the start of the Vietnam War and the American agreement to assist General Giap and Ho Chi Minh with war materials to fight off the Japanese and gave them a pathway to freedom from France. The Vietnam conflict with the United States started before JFK won his election. It also details part of the treachery dealt by the CIA and Eisenhower to the Vietnam people. You are apparently either a peace-nick or a communist. I haven't heard War Monger being used since 1975 near the end of the Vietnam war used by the North Vietnam Envoy in Paris. I also seem to remember that George 43 had the consent of Congress to go to war and for eight years they all voted to fund the war with a few exceptions.
