The article clearly states that the boy wears the rosary in remembrance of his younger brother who passed away. Sure, maybe rosaries are not meant to be worn, but that school district is going to pay through the nose for suspending the student.

If my brother took his last breath while clutching a rosary I would be wearing that same rosary to school as well.

wow i was always under the impression that wearing or carrying a rosary only symbolized peace, goodwill and honoring god. i see nothing wrong with that. as far as the gangbangers wearing them maybe it will somehow help them take the right path, you never know.

<quoted text> you are so right they are for praying. But a rosary is something that is blessed and wearing it around your neck 24-7 would be just a great thing to have for your faith.
So people carry a lucky coin, or something that they believe in. The rosary is something that people believe in and want to have close to them.
The school officals I think just went over board, they could have told the kid to make sure that it stayed inside of his shirt and I think that it would be OK.
i agree but some just wear it as jewlery...i carry my rosary in my pocket

A rosary was never intended to be a necklace. Sadly, the rosary has become a gang symbol. The kids do not wear them because of religious expression. Like all gang symbols, schools must ban them. Those defending this boy just don't get it.
The one who doesn't get it is you. If it were as simple as you so elequently put it, there would be no federal judge reinstating the boy. Jay Sequlo from the ACLJ is the conservative opposite of the liberal ACLU who is always suing to take anything that remotely appears religious, like suing Las Cruces, NM to change its name and take down the crosses from its symbol. The schools are not part of the judiciary system and should refer questionable acts to the law dept before stepping into something they'll have to admit they're wrong and apologize publicly for it. This case is in the bag for the boy and ACLJ.

Both Romans and Jews, but let's not forget it was you and me that caused Jesus crucifiction.

Jeez, didn't ya'll watch "The Passion of the Christ?" Mel Gibson said it was the Jews...

All kidding aside this school district is screwed. But school districts try to enforce "one size fits all" rules and good kids like this one pay for it.

I hate how gang members use religious symbols like the image of the Virgen Mary or rosaries to protect them when the go out and commit crimes. Or try to create their own idols like "La Santa Muerte." It's sad.
