The haste of trying to man the border and the overloaded, inefficient hiring process often comes with this type of price.
The problems with the ineffective and antiquated hiring process is that too much emphasis is put on credit, personal opinions of investigators that can ruin opportunities if they hold a bias, hiring boards with no latitude to decide based on professional opinion and other irrelevant aspects that do not equate to the hiring of a good, honest, and loyal agent.
The mindset of the federal government is, if it looks bad it must be bad-how utterly wrong and misguided. The process of hiring a good agent is very simple, but it gets lost by guidlines that are nonapplicable in todays world.
The agency is barely scraping the surface on corruption, it has yet to uncover the ones that have burrowed deep into the system and now hold high management positions.
Corruption is not just money exchanging hands for illegal aliens or drugs. The agency is corrupt, it violates the trust and confidence entrusted to it by the people.
Beware the worst is yet to come!

If he did it slam him and make him an example, corrupt officers should be held accountable!!! It's unfortunate that this individual blackmarks a higher percentage of hardworking border agents and law enforcers. There is corruption in every department at every level, so as long as they keep popping them put them away.To those who serve with loyalty and trust, the public stands behind you!

And I guess you serve "your" people when you cook up some crystal meth and give free samples in the trailer park, right? Or when you play matchmaker between your own cousins.

I’m glad they caught him and I do hope he gets the max. He gives the honest hard working agents a bad rep. Especially the new generation of agents that are getting hired on this wave of hiring spree and yes I if you’ve been in 5 years you’re still NEW to the service. It is hard to know if the person that got hired is going to be a good agent, only because it takes a while for someone’s true colors to come out.

He did it you tonta, ICE investigators will not go through all of those measures if they thought he was not guilty, get your head out of your butt...man, you must still believe in the tooth fairy and in oj's not guilty verdict..

It is interesting that the arrest is being handled by the San Antonio office of the U.S. Attorney. El Paso's U.S. Attorney, Johnny Sutton, is too busy collaborating with drug dealers in an effort to prosecute those officers who are out there trying to stop smuggling.

...or Maybe the San Antonio Office of the U.S. Atty just doesn't want Sutton as a spokesperson in REAL border patrol corruption cases.

I said "if" because in the United States you are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I personally think that he is guilty and I think that he should get the max. There is no reason for the name calling, it just goes to show what type of person you really are.

He tarnishes the badge....

CBP is hiring people left and right. Once they get to the Academy they are coddled and spoon-fed. If the recruit doesn't like his/her duty station he/she quits and then is called back whenever there is an opening at the preferred location.

In my day you were assigned to a particular location, no ands, ifs, or buts. Or don't take the job. Move to San Diego and live on a GS5 pay. Honest people do and don't take bribes, etc.

Not only should Huizar serve time, but he should also have to pay back every $$$ the taxpayer paid to put him thru the Academy, etc.

Stop hiring to fill classes and do thorough investigations of everyone who wants to work for the government.

Johnny Sutton is the U.S. Attorney for San Antonio, which includes El Paso as part of it's geographic jurisdiction. He covers both areas. Try to get your facts straight next time, champ.
