I thought fire-fighting was their job. Okay, so the New York firefighters responded to the twin towers, but why does that make a firefighter in Tinytown, Iowa an American hero? Their job is to save lives and fight fires, so why do they get ticket tape parades with huge american flags on their pumpers? What's the difference between these guys and a construction worker or a person selling goods at a convenience store? They're there cause they needed a job one day...just like everyone else. Heroes? I don't get it.

Sounds like someone wanted to be a Firefighter ( we capitalize this term) and failed.

Firefighters do not call themselves heroes.

Firefighters don't expect thanks, rewards and/or praise. When they do get it, they deflect and defer.
( you know, Hero talk)

Firefighting is not a job. Firefighters are not just doing a job. They are doing battle my friend. They are at war. They lose sometimes.

Don't insult the public that Firefighters protect by calling it a job - it is a NOBLE,INTENSE and DANGEROUS duty requiring compassion, sacrifice and dedication. A JOB??? You ignorant punk.

And YES Firefighters in Tinytown AMERICA ( we capitalize this word as well punk) are revered as much as the New York Firefighters who gave their lives on 911 ( 343 MEN - don't forget punk).Tinytown loses more Firefighters than anytown is AMERICA ( 911 the exception you punk)

Bottom line - Men are jealous of Firefighters. Women and Children love them.

Oh - the parades. The Firetruck usully leads off the parade.

Oh - the construction workers, the grocer, the 9-5 guys, the factory workers doing the same thing day after day, year after year...well Firefighters consider them to be heroes. Yes we do.

I am a Firefighter (14 years humbled and blessed) and I approve this message. Any disagreement with the above are to be judged misplaced, incorrect and/or loser talk.( Keep testing punk) You still won't get it.

Becuase if you look at the news clips of the twin towers falling all you see are cops running over civilians to get out of the way. but on the other hand you see firefighters going down with the ship saving lives.

Firefighting is a just that....a job, just like everyone else. you didn't become a f'fighter cause u wanted to save lives...u became one because u needed a job one day and Uncle Moe told u there was an opening at City Hall...apply at 8am...hello!!!! Explain how this makes u a hero. All you're concerned about on Friday afternoon is whether your Supervisor has your paycheck ready...bottom line!! As for leading with the American Flag at a parade...I don't see the connection on why f'fighter's have to carry it. I just don't get it.

Nowadays everyone is called a "hero". Even the soldiers who get loaded, race down I-10, and kill someone.

I think it because firefghter and law enforcement
both go to work willing to give their lives if called upon to do so to protect others. Both are a calling. It is not just a job to them, it is something inside that drives them to perform and succeeed at a level of performance higher than most of the public can operate. They don't think of themselves as heroes; they just do heroic things and the public is appreciative of their effort and sacrifice. Some men ans women can't do the job, so they become either jealous or envious.
Most just say thank you and that is all either of the groups ever really care about....a simple thank you.

I agree why are they heroes? They did what they are paid and supposed to do. They should not carry the American flag at parades maybe their state flag but not the ensign. They do not defend the country to warrant that honor.

What? so why should Puerco Ricans and Blacks in the Militay be considered Heros. All they do is work in supply or cooks or in the motor pool. Only Whites and Mexicans serve in combat Units .

Darkman you are really Stupid Man. Firefighters defend America from itself. Stupid people, ignorant people, sick, old, dying, unlucky, reckless, druggies, drunks, illegals, mentally challenged, defective, helpless...you name em, Firefighters are there to help. WTF about the flag you moron. AMERICAN FIREFIGHTERS. Only a guess but I am sure you are envious of a certain Firefighter aren't you? It is okay?

I am not a fire fighter I am a U.S. Marine. I rate to actually carry the American flag. let me tell you that firefighters do nothing for the country as a whole. i am not saying that they dont do anything, all i am saying is that they are not out there fighting for the country.

Again, Firefighters don't call themselves heroes. Neither do Marines.

You don't sound like a Marine. You sound like a jealous woman.

Again, you don't get it. And last time I looked, Firefighters give their lives everyday for fools like you. It is a duty to serve. You don't choose Firefighting, you earn it. One more thing, women loves Firefighters, men ( as you have shown) are jealous. Not everyone can do it. Nice try.

Firefighter is capitalized. Most Firefighters in this country are volunteers, they don't get paid. They risk their lives for FREE. NO charge. Some are paid.
As for the parade...Firetrucks are cool, shiny and have a bell to ring everytime someone stupid like you has a case of envy. Ding..Ding..Ding.

Keep em coming.

after 911 people (especially youth) are just becoming firecighters for the glory that those at 911 set forth for them. all they do is apply and once get the job are automatic "heros". the only heros i guess are the ones that have already died.
