For those really interested in Kentucky Derby Racing History (this excludes the gutter troglodyte, Petro), and the number of foreign-bred horses to win the Kentucky Derby, the following facts are provided.
There have been only four foreign-bred horses to win the Kentucky Derby. They are:
1. Sunny’s Halo (1983)
2. Northern Dancer (1964)
Great Brittain (2)
1. Tomy Lee (1959)
2. Omar Khayyam (1917
Note: Tomy Lee was owned by, and ran for the interests of, Midland, Texas Oil tycoon, Fred Turner.
Note: Canadian-bred horses are not really considered “foreign-bred” because Canada is a member of the North-American Thoroughbred Racing Association.
