<quoted text>You can relate why? Were you one of the slacker teachers who didn't want to do their job? It's because of Liano's policies in place that kept teachers accountable for their student's and the TAKS scores! Too bad he left FMS because now those scores are down, two years in a row!! Fabens school board and spouses, you all chased Liano out and now look at that campus, horrible discipline and TAKS scores! Way to go

My my...Adrian Bustillos. I remember him as the teacher who showed up late on a consistent basis and had his Co-teacher start the class or the security guard open the classroom while he came in with a hangover on many occasions. His sister had to call him to make sure he got to work. She was a student at El Paso High. He would talk about women at school with his sexual exploits and made sure everyone knew about it. He got into administration after a couple or three years of teaching because of his family relationship with people at EPISD central office. First a coach (very short run) and quickly an AP. Par for EPISD and their hirings. It isn't the best person but who you know. I see he is continuing his fine work at El Paso High.

This will ALL be forgotten by these students once school is out for the year. They won't be a ratts behind over Luis Liano or Linda Troncoso. Many of the students will retreat back to their Ciudad Juarez where they are from and the students from El Paso will let it go.......
True, very true!
Most people from this area have very poor short term memories.
Let's all get on the band wagon push for another TRE! Central Office has been working itself to the bone. It takes a village to do the work one clerk does, especially if that village is coming from Houston or Dallas.

The issues that have been brought up by the students are valid. The original letter and petition were written by students enrolled in AP classes so please don't insult the students. There are also personnel issues and the teachers and staff are also complaining about a lack of leadership and possible unethical behavior by Mr. Liano. The whole story hasn't been told by the media. The students, parents, and staff have followed proper procedures and been ignored so this was an act of desperation. They want to be heard and be treated as the intelligent young adults that they are, and yes they are intelligent. I would suggest the Times publish a copy of the letter sent by several of the graduating seniors to the district. It was well written and will show that the issues are deeper and more serious than the firing of a beloved substitute teacher.

Does anyone see what this superintendent has done to the city? He has posted his ex girl friends and buds in comfy jobs. Little wonder his subordinates have picked up his womanizing habits.
It is truly sad that the voters can not bring in DR Garcia for the loose cannon that he is. It is even more pathetic that the parents of these pupils are not standing up for THEIR children. It is a sad, sad comment for that community not to be able to stand up for what is right.
Two other schools stood up to the district and the Central Office clowns did what they were told. El Paso High Parents need to grow a pair and tell this tyrant where to get off.

Great letter! I think you have expressed your concerns quite well. Unfortunately, your complaints will fall on deaf ears since EPISD doesn't care what students think or feel.
I haven't heard anything coming from the families of that high school so it will not go far in terms of action.
El Paso High seems to be very close to the border and a large illegal population may not want to bring any attention to themselves for fear of deportation. So in terms of being treated fairly by a legal American--dream on. It will not happen in this lifetime.

Great job, these are the young adults that will change the status quo. So many teachers here in El Paso do nothing to support our students and these high school principles are just using their current position as a stepping stone, (Dr. Dora De La Rosa, Bel Air High)If only the students at Bel Air High could organize something to get rid of that person pretending to be a principle. Great job El Paso High, don't bow to the pressure, get your parents involved if you have to.

Learn the language. It is principal, not principle. Embarrassing.

Ií m a high school teacher at Fabens ISD. I have known Mr. Liano for some time, I have never worked under his leadership so I cannot attest to his morality or supposed lack of respect for students and staff. Lianoís problem is that his job, just like the jobs of every principal in our great State is dependent on TAKS performance. While Liano was a principal here at Fabens ISD he learned the ways of TAKS teaching, thatís all we do in our district, we teach to the TAKS which is why our scores are so high. Our Administration is not concerned with our students being prepared for college; all they are concerned about is our exemplary status which is gone by the way. Here at Fabens High School we have 3 full time, full salaried teachers teaching nothing but Mrs. Maria Mays Strategies, they donít teach math, they teach ways to cheat the TAKs, one of whom received the secondary teacher of the year award from our GREAT leaders and uneducated board members. Sadly this is what Bush and NCLB has brought upon us.

Enough of Liano, winkelman, bustillos, gamez, and his instructional coaches! Then EPHS will trim the excess fat and do nothings!!!
This Gamez that you speak of was and is still very popular as a consular at Hanks High School, because he pushed students to excell. He did not let them quit when they wanted to change classes because they couldn't hack it. Parents at Hanks want him to come back!!! Maybe the spoiled brats at El Paso high can't handle a challenge! This substitute teacher that is brought up is exactly that substitute not permanent! She is also the president of the alumni association at El Paso High. She has done everything to undermine Liano's authority. She even ran a faculty meeting one time. Imagine that! A substitute teacher running a faculty meeting! So EPHS students, stop your crying and go back to class! I can't name my source but it is accurate.

All a substitute teacher means is that you don't have a contract. I have known many subs that choose not to teach in order to seek other professions but enjoy being in the classroom. I've know Phd.D. and others with graduate degrees that sub and it doesn't mean you are any less than a teacher with a contract.
