There are 11 comments on the El Paso Times story from May 19, 2013, titled Voter age gap: El Paso must go after younger group. In it, El Paso Times reports that:

It is often said that elections are about the future. If that is so, why did El Paso have almost twice as many voters over age 70 as under age 40 in the recent municipal and school elections? An El Paso Times computer-aided analysis of voters in the May 11 election showed that of the more than 48,000 voters, more than 12,300 were over 70, compared ... (more)

The young people of this town are mostly politically illiterate. They have no sense of pride in their town or themselves. They are also afraid that registering to vote for any election will get them into the jury pools. Many don't realize that if they are going to school they may be exempt while they are in school.

However the biggest problem with our students registering is the high schools do not teach community responsibility. The fail to teach the students civics in the last year of school and fail to have those students who are turning 18 during their last year of school register to vote.
Many could not tell you anything about city or county government, what issues face El Paso County or the state of Texas. "My vote won't ever count" is their mantra. Their parents are the same way. We have cowards in El Paso County who have the opportunity to make things happen and never register. We have registered voters who never show up for local elections because they are too stupid to understand they need to participate every election cycle. This is why the City has a charter amendment to change city city elections to the even year cycle and at the same time as national election.

Maybe then out of the over 350,000 registered voters we have 50,000+ vote. We have too many who are cowards and their children go along with them. Dumb as door posts.

Another thing our schools fail to do is to teach the kids a trade. Not every child is college material and we need to make sure they have skills to enter the workplace. There's nothing wrong with being less intelligent and we should embrace those kids who can't hack it with higher education too.

Well Paula I agree there should be an alternative path through high school, but they all need a good class in Civics and an understand of the electoral system here in Texas and within our local area. IT is remiss of the schools to fail them there. Even if you wish to go to work trades schools you need to know who to coerce into making it possible and how to force them to vote.

When it comes to this run-off, I think of the career politician as a floater. The current administration crapped all over each of us in the city. Not a clean, neatly placed log but smelly, runny and foul. So I can't vote for him because he's the leftover. The newcomer, the challenger and business man, he seems more like a shart. He's not perfect, but not great either. You'll have to change your drawers but he won't ruin your evening. So that's my own analysis on the election.

Only a Dork would be worried about voting while still in school. I was more into getting honeys into the back seat.

You can kiss my horny nutsack and my hairy buttcrack before you're going to leave me butt up. I've never had flowers back there and don't intend to. You must be one of these tailgunners since you want entrance into my backdoor.
