I was wondering the same thing and thought that I missed something in the article.
If he was cremated then he's no longer MIA. That's why it would matter. But from my understanding he is still MIA. And I agree that either way, he should be honored. I have info that a street in El Paso is named after him. Is this true?

Do you know Manuel Puentes family? I'm curious because I have a memorial bracelet from when I was a child during the Vietnam War. They had bracelets with names of those who were MIA and people would wear them in support of those serving. The one I had was Manuel's. I too have a rubbing from The Wall.

You are not a person who reads very well, the history of the Vietnam conflict. The war was started by Democratic President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, expanded by Democratic president Lyndon Baines Johnson and Eventually closed through the Offices of President Nixon' Secretary of State. I can not understand you deep seated hatred of the Military or anything connected to the military but had I been your history teacher I would have flunked you over and over until the lessons had taken root in the thin air of your addled brain. You sir are not any better than Stalinist Russian NKVD.

Just like a Ripofflican trying to pass the buck, like trying to blame the O for The W and Ripofflican screw ups. and I don't hate everything about the Military , Im a big General Sherman fan for the way he burned the South. We need another Shermans March but the tea baggers and Perry were nothing but alot of talk. Trust me you are not qualified to teach at the schools I have attended.

.----I am from Socorro and my dad and a bunch of Socorro Vietnam vets who know the Puentes family have been battling the Socorro school district in order to honor Manuel and his family with naming a school after him for several years. This past Sunday we got together again with his family and are asking anyone for support to have a Socorro school district school named after him. 9153295046

Thank Mike Rivera for a wonderful ceremony Nov. 2, 2012. You touch our hearts so deeply. My heart feels alot of pain for my brother Manuel Puentes. Hopefully, all El Pasoas will help us with the Socorro ISD in honoring a school after his honor. He gave his ultimate sacrifice, freedom for his country. Bring Manny home!

He died for our country. What more to you want? I agree that there are a lot of El Pasoans that deserve recognition, such as physicians that have gone further than they have to do make this a more healthy city. An example is Dr. Canales, who has influenced so many families in this community. Maybe there is already some school or street named after him, sure hope so. A lot of our streets are named after politicians, and that should be done only when they have gone beyond their service.Politicians get paid for what they do, and still they do not do enough.
