In the late 1800's and early 1900's, El Paso grew into an important City because it was a crucial railroad hub with rail connections to Mexico. At that time, Porfirio Diaz, long time President of Mexico, welcomed and allowed investment and control of industry and mining by companies and corporations owned by U.S. citizens. There was no highway system for motor vehicles and no air transport. Beginning in the 1920's everything changed in Mexico and in U.S. transporation alternatives. Since then, El Paso became an isolated City, far from other commerce centers. Joyce Wilson cannot compare the El Paso of that period with today's El Paso.

Meaning what? You blame Joyce Wilson for the fact El paso is a one horse town that wants to act like a metropolis. 2 million people in an area this size in the interior means something, here, it means you have a LOT of poor mixed with the wealthy which reminds me of Mexico. Blame the last 400 years of living here to the situation, not the people for going to the "commerce centers".

What El Paso Needs is a complete cleansing of the corrupt government of Juarez and the total elimination of the Cartel in the State of Chihuahua. After that we need a fast rail system running between here to and through Las Cruces to Albuquerque. Have a daily rail system that ends in Downtown where the Union Pacific rail yard sits and from there individual mini buses to businesses.

Take out all the decrepit buildings and have some of the Hotels downtown remodeled and up dated with electronic services. Make sure that to make downtown attractive is by adding multistoried parking garages and elevated walk ways so the pedestrians don't have to compete with vehicle traffic.

Allow the voters to vote on all expenditure by the city for any project where the main payee is from out of state.
