"But more than that, the unions are directly funding campaigns against Gutierrez and Barrios. They have mailed out fliers accusing both of sacrificing public safety and putting El Monte on the brink of bankruptcy."
Gutierrez and Barrios have indeed put the city on the brink of bankruptcy by granting the police the ridiculous increase in salary and benefits in their last contract. Now the police union is abandoning them! Poetic justice.

sounds like a real active town.... funny. anyway, maybe the mayor and council should cut their own pay instead of laying off other people... bye bye . we can do without Ernie Gutx, bye bye. but , on the other hand, sounds like mexico all the way around, so... how much better can the next ones be?

Mayor Gutierrez has made some wrong choices but the City under his leadership is a better path than having Mr. Quintero take the lead. On Nov. 3 please vote to re-elect Ernie Gutierrez.

Barrios is the only one who has given up his stipend to help the budget. So know your facts idiot.

We need to back those candidates who are NOT puppets of public safety unions.

Looks like Local 1014, the fireman union, managed to finagle another increase in benefits for themselves and they are MORE than happy as clams to brag about it with their members on their website.

See the attached link to their webiste. You might also want to scroll to the attachment documents on the bottom of the page to get the break down of exactly how much more you will pay as taxpayers.
http://www.local1014.org/...

No wonder we can't afford to keep a fire station open.

HOW COME WHEN EVERYONE ELSE CUT BACK, THESE GUYS WHO CLAIM THEY ARE PART OF OUR "FAMILY" ONLY WANT MORE.

KNOW WHO IS BACKING YOUR CANDIDATES PEOPLE.

THEN HOLD ON TIGHT TO YOUR WALLET.

PRECIOUS QUOTES FROM THE FIREMAN'S UNION, LOCAL 1014:

John Bishop, 2nd VP for Local 1014 said:

"I’m all about improving salaries .....for the membership and their families, AND THEN GOIN FOR MORE." See link: http://www.1014elections.com/jb.htm

WELL GOOD FOR HIM......BUT BAD FOR JOE & JANE TAXPAYER.

PEOPLE LOOK WHOSE BACK BY THE FIREMAN UNION AND THEN VOTE AGAINST THEM. IF YOU DON'T GRAB ON TO YOUR WALLET.

CHECK OUT WHAT DAVE GILLOTE HEAD OF LOCLA 1014 FIREMAN'S UNION FINDS TO BE AMONG HIS MOST NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS (AND YOUR SAFETY AIN'T LISTED):

"This philosophy has netted unquestionable gains in the past 6 years for our membership, and a few are worth noting again:

RECORD CONTRACT with top step salaries that are the HIGHEST IN THE COUNTY AND THE NATION… 18.5 % over 30 months…19.9% compounded…

Three 10% increases—33.1% COMPOUNDED -- in the County Contribution Rates for Medical, resulting in MORE MONEY IN OUR POCKETS…

Salvaging a financially failing 1014 Health Insurance Plan by negotiating a PPO relationship with Blue Cross and giving RECORD BENEFIT ENHANCEMENTS to the plan.

Saved the City of Commerce Contract, and EL MONTE, Pomona and other contract cities have been politically shored up in a pro-active way TO NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH CUTS in a defensive way.

Elected Mark Ridley Thomas as a County Board of Supervisor who will champion our issues and work hard to bring additional votes to protect and advance Firefighter Issues to INCLUDE OUR PAY AND BENEFITS PACAKAGES. First time in 20 years! Remarkable feat for the Local.

We have RELATIONSHIPS with the CEO, our Elected Officials in every City, and both parties of State and Federal Leadership, something we can ill-afford to lose now given the state of the economy.
.....
.....
Record 603 / 604 contract terms to include SPECIALITY BONUSES like the EMD Bonus for Dispatchers…

THERE IS SO MUCH MORE, it is hard to list it all on a couple of pages…"

AND THEY ACTUALLY HAVE TO ASK WHY THE CITY CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP A FIRE STATION OPEN??????

IF THE PUBLIC SAFETY UNIONS TROJAN HORSE CANDIDATES WIN THIS NOVEMBER PEOPLE.....HOLD ON TIGHT TO YOUR WALLET.

MORE ADORABLE QUOTES FROM LOCAL 1014:

Johhny Smolin, Local 1014 Treasurer said:

"Our current contract is one of the Local’s greatest successes in recent memory. No matter how you portray it, WE ARE SEEING NEARLY TWENTY PERCENT MORE MONEY IN OUR POCKETS."

ARE YOU SEEING 20% MORE MONEY IN YOUR POCKETS THESE DAYS?

WANNA' GUESS WHERE SOME OF YOUR MONEY WENT?

THERE A REASON THE CANDIDATES BACKED BY THE POLICE AND FIRE UNIONS CALL THEMSELVES "THE CHOICE OF PUBLIC SAFETY."

WITH 20% IN MY POCKET THEY'D BE MY CHOICE TOO.

A TRADITION OF SLEEZY POLITICS:

If you vote for the POA slate you simply voting for more of the same.

If you vote for the POA slate you are voting for the same stale product in a shiny new wrapper.

Quintero and Macias are not only backed by the POA, and Fire Dept. Local 1014, but also by SEIU. Those unions will not invest their money without expecting a return on that investment. Ernie finally stood up and voted against them. Quintero is his punishment.

By the way Quintero....are you still living with you mommie and daddy, in El Monte. I've heard that your wife and child live in Riverside?

Fact check, I found it very easy for you to leave out what positions these "cops" had when they retired. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that higher ranks in any field receive a higher retirement than say the lower level positions.

Ankeny retired as police chief, Gibboney retired as asst. police chief. Clayton retired as police chief, Sperry retired as a captain, Jeske retired as assit. police chief and Walker as a Captain. Kind of deceitful for you to say they were just cops and for you to list Leslie George as just a fireman? He was the Fire Chief. Little more than just a fireman don't you think. This is not a city type retirement. Certain public employees through PERS get 90 % of their highest year when they turn age 50.
