Every other state that they have opened a slaughterhouse in has had horrific problems as a result. If slaughterhouses are SO great for the community, how come they don't go BACK to one of those towns in IL or TX? It's because those towns had HUGE problems actually hearing the screaming of dying horses, blood that overwhelmed their sewage systems and came up in their sinks and bathtubs (even in their town daycare!), and crime rose dramatically because the only people who would work for the low wages doing such horrific work was Mexican criminals. IF this slaughterhouse is opened there will be constant protests and I will literally move there to protest every single day. We will organize a statewide boycott of ANY horse related activities, including camping, shows, trail rides, and ACTHA events. If we have to we will literally starve the state of all revenue till it closes them. Don't bring this horror to Missouri. The people of TN, NM, OR, and NJ have already spoken and the vote is "NO". Our state is NOT a place for this kind of garbage! Tell Sue Wallace if it's so great open one in YOUR home town! LOL

A screaming horse, now that's a good one. Did not know a horse could scream.I can't help but wonder if a cow screams when it goes to the slaughter house.

First ~ No cattle do not scream. They are not panic-prone creatures of flight like horses. Cattle have been bred to be docile, and they will stand quietly in the head restraints long enough for a competent - notice I said COMPETENT - person to put the captive-bolt pistol against their forehead and pull the trigger. Since the captive-bolt was designed for cattle, it works if used properly.

Not so for horses. If they cannot run, they immediately panic, raising their long, upright, flexible necks - cattle have short, inflexible, horizontal necks so are incapable of this - and flinging their heads about wildly, making the proper, legal use of a captive-bolt pistol impossible. Horses are normally shot many more times than the mandatory ONE SHOT and mandatory head restraints cannot be used on horses either.

In this verified video, you can see a horses shot ELEVEN times and still possibly not completely stunned. Many horses are still conscious when they are strung up and eviscerated. This is WELL documented.
More: Captive bolt study: http://www.box.net/shared/3jbna7fyga

Moreover, US horses are unregulated, non-food animals. Therefore, horse medications and other widely used products contain substances that are absolutely banned from ANY use AT ANY TIME in food-animals. We have NO way of tracking whether a given horse has been exposed to banned substances or to remove these horses from the human food chain. Some of these substances are very dangerous for humans to eat - especially children.

A scream from a horse is TOTALLY different from a whinny. Most people have never heard a horse scream because a horse must be in very dire straits before they will scream.

I've owned horses for 35 years, and the only time I ever heard one scream was when I was at one of the horse slaughter plants that were in Texas - Dallas Crown in Kaufman. I lived in Dallas - 30 miles away - and was helping friends who's horses had been stolen. I suggest that anyone who is pro-horse slaughter visit a horse slaughter plant while it's open and running. You will hear horses screaming. And you will see what is being referred to as "humane processing" - by those who have never seen it, or are so greedy they don't give a rip. It is cruel beyond belief, and horse screams are something you will NEVER forget.

Here's the link to the video I mentioned. This by the way, is a state-of-the-art plant in Quebec designed by Temple Grandin - who admits there is no way to humanely slaughter horses.

I need to find out who is the mayor and counsel members of Rockville anyone know? I have a lady asking.

Also you forget your lakes and rivers will become toxic if that gets into the system! I guess there won't be anymore fishing in a few years.

You will have to fight the "old" families in that area.

The crime rate will jump up and there is no way you can protect your horses even with micro chipping and branding as they will rush those through to prevent the old I didn't know they were stolen routine.

And the Pro groups say it isn't profitable for someone to steal a horse for slaughter, BS! They say they make more money stealing copper.

Remember they are not in the bone business but meat and if your horse is well cared for look out!

Slaughterhouse Sue is nothing but a
Carpetbagger. We ran her out of Mountain Grove
after exposing the truth about her shady
reputation and the actual facts about her
proposed slaughter plant.

Do not allow these people to ruin your
community with their false promises
and lies. You will pay a high cost
now and in the future if Wallis and friends
are successful in locating their
horse slaughter plant in Rockville

Where were all of you that are so against horse slaughter when people were literally dumping their horses in other peoples pastures or putting them trailers at sales? Tell me which is better, to see a horse starving to death or put down. I am horse owner and mine will be here until it takes it last breath but I cant afford to take on all the ones that unresponible owners have.

This tired old excuse again? really? If they can not afford a horse or budget for them to be humanly euthanize (vet) them when the time comes then they don't need to have them. We do not need horse slaughter in America we need people who only breed TOP quality horses, not just because they own a male and female. Also we need Animal cruelty laws to charge people if found to starve there horses. REPORT people who are starving there horses!!

The Mayor of Rockville is Dave Moore. I would ask that he and the citizens of Rockville reconsider, have another town meeting armed with the facts this time. I believe if people were better informed about this operation they would NOT approve.
