Stamped or metered?

When we're returning Netflix dvds, we try to take them in to the post office on Timberlane so we'll get one-day turnaround (Netflix is amazing at this).
I'd swear the two slots inside used to say 'local' and 'out of town' which was easy to understand, but recently changed to 'metered' or 'stamped' which is less easy: Netflix envelopes are neither metered nor stamped by my definitions.
The missus and I have been arguing about this so I finally tried googling it, and found this long debate: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthrea...
Upshot: they both get handled the same so it doesn't matter!
