Don't forget that 99% of the time cops are dealing with people at their worst. No one calls the cops when all is well. I don't like their rudeness either, but at least I understand it. Not EVERY cop is a bad guy. But it seems like we label every cop as one. How would you like to be this hated?

AND, you hate them, but who will you call when your life is threatened?

Hating all cops because they wear a badge/uniform is as stupid as hating all people of any particular color, religion, etc. because a few give the majority a bad name.

I could care less about there rudeness, its killing unarmed people that needs to stop.
Watch the video of the homeless man killed in the park. The cops took the video with a helmet cam witch showed the man getting shot in the chest five times. Why send a SWAT team to remove one person from a park. I was unaware if you do not like cops thy could refuse your 911 calls. Can a pilot through you off his plane at 30,000 feet if you do not like the ride.
Do you like going to the doctor, if not maybe he will refuse to treat you. If you make your dentist
mad you might haft to pull your own teeth.

I would only call a cop or dial 911 because if I kill someone that is unarmed I might go to jail.
If you think the cops can protect you your dead wrong. Get a gun, learn to use it , and protect yourself.

Over 1,000,000 men and women serve as full time state and local US police officers.
If as many as 1% of these officers killed someone (justified or not) there would be 10,000 civilians killed each year. Almost equal to the total number of nationwide homicides.

While officers shooting civilians make great stories for the news media, the number of incidents is very small. This is much like the sensationalism of an airplane crash vs. a car crash.

If you have an emergency and you call 911 and officer must and will respond. If you have such disdain for officers I have one question. "Why would call 911?"
Any one in fear of their well being or feel others may be in imminent danger and refuse to call 911 to aid in the situation are just as guilty as those commiting the crime itself. I do not believe any officer no matter your opinion would ever tell someone they are not allowed to or do not call 911 unless you are call an emergency number for a NON-emergency. It is IMPOSSIBLE to REFUSE a 911 call for the record.

So, who thinks we do not need law enforcement? I hate to think what it would be without them.

Good advice, however the most important thing to remember is that you don't have to say a word to law enforcement except that you want to contact your attorney before any questioning. If you don't have an attorney or cannot afford one, a public defender is better than no representation at all. Any and all questions should cease at that point or your Miranda rights have been violated right off the bat.
That's where asking "am I being detained, or am I free to go" comes in. It's the litmus test on keeping your mouth shut. If the answer is no, get to stepping immediately. If you stay after that, it is considered voluntary. If the answer is yes, then invoke your right to remain silent. And do just that, remain silent and don't fall for any of their tricks. Do not ever let them goad you into opening your mouth. It can come back to bite you in the ass later.

You are quite wrong, the Supreme Court has already ruled on this. See, http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/politics/28... .

Ruling just means people can't sue the city for money.

Your not counting the ones killed in car wrecks and the people beat to death with night sticks, and those put in choke holds. IT may not seam like a lot UNLESS you or someone you know or love is in this very small number.

The only reason I would call is, IF I take care of it MYSELF I could go to jail longer then the thug.
I did not say they could refuse to go to a 911 call I said WHAT IF. IF you think it is impossible to refuse a 911 call you should watch more news. IN L.A., N.YORK and others places it can take up to SIX hours for the cops to get around to your 911 call. IF your in fear for your life you had better be able to defend yourself.

A good example that most people either ignore or don't care about are the West Memphis Three, who were wrongly accused of the murder of 3 small boys in the mid 90's, and as a result spent 17 years in prison until DNA exonerated them. The police forced confessions out of those kids and ruined their lives. I think Damien Echols was on death row. The other 2 boys received a life sentence. Alleged Satanism was the reason, caused by mass hysteria. Thank God they kept fighting for justice. Because law enforcement was so worried about these particular suspects, the real killer is still out there somewhere. It took years for the prosecution to agree to have the DNA tested from one of the victims. Sentencing a minor to death is just wrong, so wrong in fact a law was passed to commute their sentences to life and remove them from death row if they were under the age of 18 when the crime was committed.

Where was the outrage over this case?

A very good example of why a person should never talk to the cops without your lawyer present. The police preyed on the ignorance of the West Memphis Three.
