One, this was in the paper today. Two, the redheaded reporter wrote in her column she's moving to California for a new job.

One, what's your point? Two, a fired person is always in search of a new job.

appears if she hadn't picked it up on a city police report no one would have ever known about it. Too much federal like goverment going on out there

Actually, I wasn't fired. My last day at the News-Times is on March 29. I gave notice three weeks ahead of time that I was accepting a position in California. If you actually read the paper you'd have seen my byline in it quite frequently last week and you will again this week.

Too bad your leaving and not the editor. Seems many things go on around this town most especially at that sheriffs office that citizens are not told about.
there was a time in this town that the El Do News Times held goverment officals to some amount of accountability.

A plant blows up in this county that endangers the public and the sheriff doesn't even give you a statement. That is just one time there has been many.
Editor needs to go and bring someone in with some backbone.

How could anyone be offended that this public news was brought out in the open? Or get mad because someone brings up ineptitude in part of our penal system? These are the types of things worth bringing up on Topix. Not whatever person or family pisses you off because they have a nice car or wtf-ever. The same people that will get pissed because you mention something went wrong in the town (actual news) are the same people that will do nothing but bitch or gossip about specific people all over the website. Talking about events or politics or your opinion on housing or whatever is what this site should be for. Not trying to bash people. Miserable, unhappy people are the ones that do that and they are the same ones that will throw a fit if you dare bring up that something went wrong in our town. Shit happens everywhere. It amazes me that some people get so angry if you say anything negative, no matter how true, about El Dorado.

This is a small town. Small towns all over the country have a long-standing reputation for keeping things hush hush. I don't love it, but it doesn't bother me enough to move or anything. If you want to hear about everything then move to a city where there is more than one news source and some actual competition for them to do a good job. Until then, get used to the fact that a lot that happens won't be reported and there will always be typos and screw-ups in the locally written columns.

It should be every citizens concern and their business what goes on that involves their tax dollars. We do still live in a free country, a democracy. If our public officials refuse to talk to the press to many that signals they are hiding something. What is a free press for if not to keep the people informed? If there is a public elected official that does not believe in a free press or will not inform the public he or she should be replaced at the next election.

Some news can't be hidden. Its not like every other town our size doesn't have the same problems with people trying to keep things covered up. Its done everywhere but its a little easier when there are only a handful of people that are running things. El Dorado is no worse than anywhere.

Actually, El Dorado is worse than most places I've been in my life. Same goes for a LOT of other people. I've hardly met anyone that actually likes it here. Most people just tolerate it or ignore the problems altogether. And ppl wonder why there are never any good changes here...

It sounds like you hang out with a miserable group. I know many people that love it here and work years for the opportunity to move back here. We'be had many great changes over the past 10 years and many more to come.

Work years for the opportunity to move back here? Yeah fucking right. You've got your head way up your ass, democrat. I like it here just fine and am thankful for my job and my town. But be honest, you don't see anyone making leaps to move here. Pretending we have "so many opportunites" doesn't make it true. We don't have any more or less opportunities than any other town with our size and racial demographics. We are normal. Average. Decent. But we can't kid ourselves into thinking we are anything special. The only thing truly special here is the El Dorado Promise, which is a Godsend to many people. Other than that, average.

Also, we do get a LOT more going on for fun and festivities than most towns our size. We are blessed to have a fun-seeking little town. But that is fun, not opportunity. Though it is something I think a lot of ppl here take for granted.
