The Headline says "El Dorado's loss; Fordyce's gain"

"A local business owner who proposed to open a boat manufacturing company in El Dorado has instead sealed a deal with Fordyce.....starting with about 25 jobs...... Bill Long, owner of Bills Marine, said he regretted that the effort to launch Titan Marine LLC in El Dorado didn't work out, adding that he was up against a push to get going to fill 100 orders that have already been placed to Titan. Long took a funding request Tuesday to the El Dorado Economic Development Board to help open the business and cited a...'LACK OF SUPPORT FROM THE BOARD' as part of the reason for his decision."

It goes on to state that the EEDB 'didn't have enough information to act on the business loan request'. Funny, because FORDYCE jumped on that opportunity like white on rice.

All in all, Fordyce officials were smart enough to jump on an opportunity. They saw something that would be good for their town and bring it jobs. It states clearly in the article that it took their board 15 minutes to make a unanimous decision. FIFTEEN minutes. So while El Dorado officials made one excuse after the other and twiddled their thumbs, Fordyce took action.

Thanks for screwing this town once again. Mayor Hash and EEDB.

The EEDB is an ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT board, yet they are clearly ANTI BUSINESS. Of course, some idiot will come on here and make some excuse as to why the EEDB is perfect and of course it isn't their fault. Which is, of course, going to be the insanities of that topix stalking lunatic that says stupid sh*t every time he posts. Anyone with half a brain can see that the EEDB is worthless and against the very thing they are organized to do, which is to welcome more jobs here in El Dorado and actively support business.

People need to realize that this is the key to El Dorado's growth. With officials such as the EEDB and Mayor Hash purposely discouraging business to come into this town, that is never going to happen. El Dorado will continue to die.

People have said time and time again that those people only support restaurants and retail in hopes to make El Dorado a festival town. In the process, they are killing any real economic growth and further crippling any chances we might have to thrive again. Anyone with basic sense knows a handful of festivals won't be creating long term businesses, certainly not anything truly economically stimulating.

Corrupt? Maybe not. They are economically incompetent on every matter. Why are we letting ignorant, anti-business idiots ruin this town even more than it already has been these past ten years? Those exact kinds of people being given decision making positions are the ones that punished and discouraged business in the first place, leading to El Dorado's decline. And we are still letting it happen.

Makes any hope for more industry in this town seem pretty bleak.

Here's to another significant population decline by 2020!

Poor Mr. Loftin. He even quoted "I did not want to leave El Dorado, but it felt like my own people didn't want me".

Then Hash makes some total bullsh*t excuse about how the EEDB needs to do a "mid course exam" to see if if there is anything that they are possibly overlooking that they need to intensely examine, because its a tough environment out there.

Wow, ya think? At least Hash made a half-ass attempt to acknowledge they are clearly failing.

All of this is just deplorable. This town makes me sick. Thank God I'll be out of this horrible shit hole when my new job starts in Utah next year. Goodbye corrupt dying hell, hello beautiful mountains, clean rivers and a thriving community!

I know I know, crazy people. Good riddance to me. I couldn't agree more! Though I will miss my friends and church :(. But even most of them have expressed how happy they are for me that I get to leave this place. Even the people that are happy here seemed to have resolved themselves to a life in low quality. I was never unhappy here, but when I went to Utah I realized quality of life is SO much better elsewhere. El Dorado is a worthless, corrupt, incompetent ghetto town and I suggest anyone who can get the f*ck out!

Cant the people see Hash needs to keep these funds to find stupid overpriced projects that him and a handfull of his buddies can get a large kickback under the table on!!! They also use out of town and state contractors rather than the local which would be even more economical !! out of town and state contractors has to pay living expenses which adds to the construction costs and slso takes jobs from the locsl people as well!! They dont want to invest in industry to put money in local poor peoples pockets they want to invest in marked up unnecessary projects they can mark up and get kickbacks on!! HASH IS IN IT FOR HIMSELF NOT THE PEOPLE FOR SURE ITS VERY OBVIOUSVTO SEE!!!

Hash always has some of his cronies come on here and twist the real truth around to make him look good!! Tell it like it is!! This plant was to start out with atleast 50 employees that could easily grow to several hundred employees!! That would have a great impact on the economy around here. People cant spend money and support retail without industry and jobs period!! Hash is in it for his own personal gain, not the residents its very plain to see Hash is all about what profits me!!

Hash may be wrong, but this company's business plan called for 15 jobs at ten bucks an hour. Where are you getting your figures from?

Your such an idiot. Bill Long said it would be 25 employees at first. Frank Hash has been on board with the project and actually announced it earlier than he was suppose to. Your EEDB memebers are the ones that are screwing us over, they report to the "Old Money" here and they dont want any new money coming into town.

Actually Long initially said it would be 15 jobs at ten bucks an hour. That's what his business plan says. Only when questioned by the EEDB did he up the numbers. They asked that he go back and update his business plan. Apparently he wasn't willing to do that. Hash made the mistake of assuming everyone would approve the project before actually talking to them. He dragged the company through the wringer and then acted like he didn't have anything to do with it. He needs to leave economic development to the people we have in place to do it.

No new money? Their biggest investment for the entire tax aside from the conference center has been for Thermaflite, who is from CALIFORNIA. If that's not new money, I don't know what is.

Actually, the initial proposal was for 15 jobs. He increased the amount because he was questioned about compensation within the package. This means THE NUMBERS DON'T ADD UP!

As someone else asked: if this is such a "great deal," why won't a bank finance it? If you look at Page 2 of today's News Times, you'd notice a Hot Springs man accused of funneling money to other endeavors from his business start-up contribution from Rogers, AR. Looks pretty damn familiar.
