What in the world has happened to the El Dorado High School Marching Band? I was at the football game last night and was shocked to see how small the band was. There weren’t even any flag twirlers. It looked like there were only about 20 people in the whole band.

It is rebuilding time. The previous Director caused quite a few to not return.
They sounded good, though!

Yes, the El Dorado band did sound good for how few there were. The Magnolia band was awesome.

The band is small because band students have dropped out due to the resignation of the former head band director and the behavior of one of the assistant band directors last year. The band's small size could actually be a good thing since those who weren't dedicated to the band were weeded out, leaving the students who are committed.

For a look as to what the band looked like in 1990,go to You Tube and search for El Dorado Arkansas High School Band 1990. Unbelieveable that a band program could change so. Hopefully, we are turning the corner and we can get the program back to where it was.

Bands all over this area have struggled over the past, I don't know... ten years or so. I played bariton in highschool and some college and am sad to see what has happened to them.
I am excited at a number of new band directors in the area. El Dorado is one, Norphlet and Junction are others. These guys are working hard to bring back the glory days of the south arkansas marching band.(I don't know much about Parkers Chapel... I'm sure she's doing well, also)
Let's just give these people as much support as we can! Go Band!

Before Hal Cooper was Dix Stallings who came to El Do from Smackover. He singlehandedly turned our band program around from the pitts under Lenard Fulkerson beginning in 1964. He left to be the director at Ouachita Baptist University in 1975. In came Hal Cooper, admittedly, a good director, but he inherited the program Stallings built.

In the Ghent/Walters era, the percussion section had a marching cadence thing we played. I believe it was called "Cooper's 1, 2, and 6" or somesuch. I don't suppose it's still around?

The band went to a marching contest at UAM on Tuesday and scored straight ones across the board. Very different from the fives they made last year! Great job to the band directors and the students who have worked so hard to turn around the mess from the last couple of years.

EHS Band scored 1's for percussion and Drum Major, a 2 for over all on Saturday at the competition in Little Rock. Then Tuesday, took all 1's at Regionals in Magnolia. Kloap (the new director) has REALLY turned this train around. Discipline, organization and actually learning about music. What a difference! Show your support to the students who are working so very hard.

Our band (yes, I'm a senior in the band as you can tell in my name to the left) has been doing an excellent job this year, and I use that term strongly.

Yes, we're down in numbers compared to my freshman year (around 100 or so) but we still sound like a 100-150 member band.

October 6, 2009: EHS Band received straight 1's at UAM/KKY Marching Invitational Contest.

October 17, 2009: EHS Band received 1's in Drum Major and Percussion, and a 2 in overall ratings at Arkansas Showcase of Bands.

October 20, 2009: EHS Band received a 1st Division rating at Region IV Marching Contest in Magnolia.

That's proof enough that we're much better than the previous 2 years, 3 if you count 2006-2007 "suckish" too.

Now I'm not saying you people are dogging us, but I'm just letting you guys know, we're a LOT better than those years.

I am also the President of the Band Council 2009-2010.
