You dont simply fire someone for not showing up for work. As a company you invest time and capitol in the training of an individual. You work with the employee and look into why they are not showing up for work and help them wich intern helps you and the company in the long run.
Yoi saved thousands and thousands in teaining and shown that you really care which in turn builds a valuable employee in the long run.
Simple good business practice.
Duhh

So if a guy just disappears you hold his job open until you can contact him and work with him? I don't think so.

Under Arkansas DWS decisions it is not showing up for work with no notification to the employer. If the employer's rule are even one no call/no show and you fail to show up one day and don't call in that is job abandonment.

The thing is job abandonment isn't actually one of the terminations classifications under Arkansas DWS law. It is just a phrase used in decisions to explain a certain type of termination.

When you spend thousands and thousands on training it makes more since to investigate the situation and help the employee than simple termination.
Sure you can hire and such but after you jave a lot invested you should work with the employee before wasting company resources.

An employee who is continually absent is a waste of company resources. Not to mention what it does to the morale of those who are left to take up the slack when a coworker takes advantage.

Each situation is different just as each employee is. Sure absentee can be a pain.
Always investigate each situation and make your judgement

The boss you are right if position involves long term training or financial investment in employee. The major problem I have seen here is that you have too many people who show up late most times if at all, they take off early for all kinds of reasons, and not only are they not worried about it in the least , they have no intention of working harder or faster to make up for it. They spend most of time at job trying to get out of working. Honestly absenteeism is less problem than those who show up every day on time and don't do squat all day. If we want to attract better jobs here there is going to have to be major change in way people work at restaurants, stores, motels and other businesses here. I myself drove out of town to shop because stores here are unstocked all the time and dirty and lot of workers are just rude and have attitude. Is not that way everywhere, why we are being passed over time after time for better companies.
