There's a reason for it, and it goes back way before you and me.
That's anywhere, dumbass. But education is easily obtainable for minorities. If you're white and poor, you'll spend the rest of your life paying off college debt. However, this national delimma has nothing to do with El Dorado.

your right, I didn't see a cross burning out at the Baptist camp ground with a bunch of white hooded folks, guess they were having an anonymous revival, I didn't see a preacher parading around with a bunch of kids holding anti gay adoption signs....this wasn't in eldorado, just 5 miles north.

Actually, El Dorado is not statiscally a welfare town. Your figures, which I assume you pulled off of Wikipedia or out yourass, are a complete fabrication. I agree that it's not hard to find legit data. You should at least try.
If it isn't hard to find legitimate data then by all means, provide some. If the easy to find and available statistics are really "fabrications" then where are your accurate ones? Care to actually back up your claim that El Dorado somehow doesn't fall far below the national average for poverty, when all available information says otherwise? Please provide these elusive, magical statistics you speak of. Or do they only exist in your mind?

Like your "statistics?" You didn't even provide a source, much less a link. It's evident to everyone that reads this thread that YOU are the one that should support your claim, since YOU are the one that posted the lie.

Calling someone out for not supporting your claims doesn't make your claim more valid. So they didn't provide links? Then you should prove them doubly wrong by posting links that support your own claims. They didn't provide links for their opinion so you don't have to provide links for yours either? I think both of you are full of poo.

So for the hell of it I'm going to do some of my own research here and actually post where I got it from. I challenge you both do to the same, though I know you won't.

Okay now... I've found all kinds of data. Not any wikipedia crap either. Unfortunately I found some disturbing stuff that I didn't want or expect to find :( I hate when that happens. I like my reality bubbles in tact and not bursted. Well here it is:

El Dorado's crime rate isn't just above average. Its over TWICE the national average. Yes, I said twice. I had no idea. That is scary.

http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime-El-Dorad...

As of August of this year, the unemployment rate was 9.4%. The national unemployment rate is 7.3%.. The state unemployment rate is 7.5%

http://www.homefacts.com/unemployment/Arkansa...

http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000

http://www.businessweek.com/ap/2013-11-22/ark...

I don't know if having a higher than average unemployment rate makes us a welfare town. It would be reasonable to conclude that more people here are on government assistance than the national average. Still, I don't know if that makes a welfare town or not. What would be the definition of "welfare town" anyway? The website I listed can link you to Pine Bluff as well, which says it has an unemployment rate two points higher than ours. Pine Bluff is a terrible place, so that makes El Dorado right in between average and terrible. That sounds about right to me I guess.

I left for college two years ago and have managed to not be back since because I live clear across the country. Now I'm here for Christmas break and I have realized that this place IS NOTHING BUT A HUGE PIECE OF SHIT. Nothing against some of the incredible people here, but damn, are you people stupid or what? I'm including my parents in this, even though they have to stay here for career purposes. In high school my friends used to talk about getting out of El Dorado because it was so horrible and I didn't really get it.
NOW I DO.
After living somewhere that isn't a shithole, I can see clearly just how big of a massive turd this town really is. The saddest thing? NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT. How can you change and entire population of people? You can't.
I can't go to Wal Mart, get my car detailed or get a damn McDonald's hamburger without some incompetent idiot screwing something up or making something way more difficult than it should be.
And I don't even want to hear you idiots blame black people. OK, honestly, having more than HALF your damn population black is causing problems. It would anywhere, because of the unfortunate disproportion of blacks on welfare. El Dorado IS a welfare town, no way around it. Welfare towns BRING DRUGS IN. Welfare towns make YOUR SCHOOLS SUCK. Welfare towns HAVE MORE CRIME. Welfare towns MAKE EVERYTHING WORSE, from restaurants to retail stores. But guess what? Where I live now, 30something % of the pop is black and things still run right! I come here and almost everyone I come across no matter what color or level of education, is half-retarded! And saying that might just be offensive to retarded people. All the white trash and unwed mothers around here? Its crazy! My friends from high school who stayed here? On drugs now, or miserable. Seems like everyone here my age is either on drugs or miserable. The ones that aren't on drugs have nothing to do but watch their trashy friends get drunk and ride 4-wheelers. Its the saddest f*cking thing I've seen in my life.
I can't wait to get out of here. I know why my family is trapped here but they still know El Dorado is a shithole, they don't bury their heads in the sand and make excuses for it. What about the rest of you fools? Why the bloody f*ck would anyone who has a choice choose to live here? Sure I would rather be here than some of the other, smaller, just as shitty towns in Arkansas. I would rather be here than Kenya or Iran, but DAMN IF THIS TOWN ISN"T SOME OF THE WORST THIS COUNTRY HAS TO OFFER.
I really want an answer to this: how can any of you go to your stores and eat at your restaurants and not realize how bad things are when you compare them to just about everywhere else in the country? How can you let your children attend school in a piss-poor school system when you KNOW there are much better schools, much better towns, you could raise your children in? Why do you stay in this dying, decrepit place when there are more jobs and opportunities elsewhere for you and your children?
This is my first time home since starting college this year. I knew El Dorado sucked before I ever left but now its almost unbearable. And yeah, too many old friends on the drug wagon. Sadness :(

You're asking the Topix stalker to back up his crazy ass opinions? Ha! That will never happen. That lunatic has been on here since I was a sophomore in high school. Years later he's still on here talking to himself and trying (but failing) to make people as miserable as he is. He also thinks El Dorado is perfect and a great place to live, which is a testament to how crazy he is. He spews hatred about everyone and everything except El Dorado in a general sense. He's just the miserable topix ranter. He'll never put anything on here worth shit because he can never back up anything he says. Ever. If you ask him to he'll just deflect and change the subject.

Thanks to a kind poster who was actually willing to do some research, we now know that its an undisputed fact El Dorado is below the national average for poverty. Anyone who argued otherwise must have been misinformed or just likes to make shit up off the top of his head. I'm going with the latter.

We have more than TWICE the average crime rate? I had no idea! I mean, I know we have more blacks than whites and a large black population always = higher crime. But damn cuz, over TWICE the national rate? Thats terrible. Absolutely terrible. I've heard people say stuff like "crime here is the same as everywhere". Well now we know the truth about that one, don't we? Damn, is El Dorado worse than average at every damn thing? I used to think El Dorado was just an average American town but now I'm starting to think people are right when they talk about how many problem we have here - problems that can't really be fixed. We can't change demographics, white flight or the rising rates of minorities.

What is happening to my town? Or has it been going on a long time and I'm just now noticing it?

This is one interesting thread. Usually its a bunch of crap but this is serious stuff. I checked out that website and found some interesting stuff of my own. For instance, El Dorado has the worst crime rate of any of our surrounding areas like Magnolia and Camden. On the index used for crime rates, El Dorado is 200 points higher on the crime index than Camden, and nearly 400 points more than Magnolia.

http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime-El-Dorad...

I would think Pine Bluff would have a hell of a lot more crime than us. They do, of course, but its not as much as you would think. Pine Bluff is only 200 points higher than us on the crime index. Since we are 200 points higher in comparison to Camden, I say being 200 points lower than Pine Bluff is pretty bad. And Pine Bluff has some of the worst crime rates in the entire nation per capita. So we're only 200 points on the index lower than one of the worst crime towns in the nation? OH MY GOSH!

EVERYONE who reads this needs to go to the websites provided in these threads. Its disturbing stuff that people need to know. Especially people who are debating leaving El Dorado.
