In the 50's, this hotel had a TV in their lobby and could pick up a station from Little Rock. Me and my brothers used to walk down there on Friday nights to watch the Gillette sponsered fights. People like Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles and Sugar Ray Robinson. As kids, we had to sit on the floor or course and the men got the couches.

Yes> I remember the Garratt as a child. Many of the civic clubs met there. I remember serving pancakes as a Key Club member in high school at the Kiwanis Pancake Day sale in 1963

Does anyone have any other pictures of either this Hotel or the Randolph besides the two on here? I am very interested in our local history since I grew up here and can barely remember these old hotels. I would love to see more pictures. Thanks.

I was a kid in the fifties and my Dad said one could get a little wooly-bugger upstairs at the Garrett for $12, or was it the Randolph?

I believe it was built by a Garret who lived in the Garret mansion where Murphy Oil headquarters are now located. The mansion can be seen several times in Psycho from Texas which is available on YouTube. I have been told that T.P. Marks ( who may have changed the spelling from Marx when he moved ) came here from New Orleans to manage the Garret. I do not know if the family maintained ownership until it closed.
