We were evacuated from Revenue office by sheriff. Very toxic smoke there hurt lungs to breathe.

It's pretty sad that our local news have not said anything about the evacuation my mom lives over there and she had to call the sheriff's office to find out about the evacuation so I would like to say thank you to the sheriff's office

Scanner traffic reports "Shelter in Place" in Rudell Acres. No mandatory evacuation at this time. Turn off a/c and stay inside.

Word I get from a plant employee is that the media is downplaying it and it is some bad crap.

I'm sure that the plant is downplaying it to the authorities and the media. Don't want to cause panic. I came through Champagnolle road between the city limits and 167 about 45 minutes ago, and it was pretty dang bad through there. Very dense haze in the air, and the chlorine had my eyes irritated and I was short of breath after speaking with the police officer for about 10 seconds.

When will we have enough of these accidents at this place? I know that the world needs these type of facilities to process our waste, but I think it is time for us to try to get them out of our community. They need to be in a more isolated area. These types of accidents will never be completely prevented.

I'm sure you're right about the downplaying and you are right about the need for such facilities. But force such facilities out of communities? Where? New Mexico? Montana? China would LOVE to have them! They have multiple facilities across the country, providing a much needed service that civilians don't have the capacity to perform for themselves. Also, it provides quite a few jobs. So a small community is ideal, and we fit the bill.

However, accidents happen. It's a part of life. Not saying it shouldn't be avoided, as it should definitely be monitored to resolve this problem in the future, but we shouldn't look at taking these jobs and moving them elsewhere. Just look at East Camden. Government jobs that could easily be placed anywhere. But why in the 50-mile radius of 30,000 ppl? Required workforce in a small residential area. And theyre in harm's way everyday from one little accident. As are we, in situations such as this.

A better method would be to finding a more profound, and safe, way to dispose of such waste. And that's what Clean Harbors is, compared to companies in the past. But progress can continue to be made. Care to join the geographical fight to find a safer way to dispose of harmful waste? You could be worth millions, if not billions, for this discovery. If not, then be appreciative for the progress we have made as a society, but not make a knee jerk reaction every time an incident occurs. The federal government is a clear example of why that is a bad idea.

We don't need to lose a single job but the fact is that El Dorado has sold it's soul to chemicals. I can tell you that every statement from the media is only partly the truth. Any oxidizer is a dangerous chemical, go on-line and research it for yourself. There is not a single doctor in El Dorado that will say chlorene gas will hurt you because they can't tell you the truth. Emergency management and every agency will play the game also. It's great for us to have the plants and the jobs but if any of you don't realize the danger, you are dreaming.
