the mall owner is an idiot and has been for years. He has single handedly made such bad businesses decisions that he even hurts himself by being so greedy. Our pathetic joke of a mall might actually be worth a shit if he didn't make such assed up "business" deals. That idiot of a man has no idea how to do proper business. My guess is that he was born with money or came into it from a dead relative, and now has no idea what the fuck he's doing. He would make himself a lot more if he wasn't so damn stupid. People like him are ruining El Dorado retail and restaurant businesses.

<quoted text> Sounds great in theory but our town can't support another movie theatre. Or are you talking about a live play theater complex? That would be really nice. I love going to our local play productions. They are always great!
It will be for live plays. Think Broadway shows that have ended their runs, Shakespeare festivals, etc.

It was never purchased. It was discussed, but did not happen once the call center found that its be cheaper to upgrade one of their current facilities. Smart business move on their part, but unfortunate for us. At least the city was smart enough to never follow through with the purchase of the building. Therefore, the city never had anything to sell. So, Atwoods negotiated with the private owner. Does that play by play make it simple enough for little ole you to understand?
Correct. The city had gone on record as saying they wouldn't purchase the building until there was a signed contract in hand that said for sure the call center was coming here. However, the city *may* have jumped the gun and let some workers into the building to start some early renovations in anticipation of the call center coming. I never got confirmation one way or the other on that rumor.

However, for what it is worth, I do remember the city or EEDB footing the bill for a telephone survey to show that the area did have the necessary workforce to staff the call center.

True. And that's a perfectly legitimate expense. And it also has nothin to do with the building. The city never spent a penny on that building, and they didn't give a penny to Atwoods either.

Helping one gain competitive edge over another and cause one serious financial damage would be cause for damages in a court of law, not saying that happened, just saying .

How so?

The city's job regarding economic development is to encourage more businesses to do business here. So if they had been asked to pay for some road improvements in front of the business or to abate property taxes for a period of time to incentivize a new business to come to town, that is a perfectly legal act. You may think it's wrong, and that's your prerogative. But it's legal.

Would it be fair to pay taxes with city funds for atwoods and not pay the taxes for Eppinette with city funds ? would that not be giving a competitive edge to one retailer over another with basically the same merchandise by paying for part of there business expense ?

I can see that happening without problems on the industrail side, where there is no competition, this is different, If the city is going to do favors for one retailer should they not be willing to do it for all of them ?

would it be fair for city tax money to rebuild a parking lot for one retailer and not another ?

Depends. Is Eppinettes a store that people will drive a Half hour or more to shop at? Are they renovating an old eyesore building that was going to fall apart if they hasn't moved in? Are they creating 25 new jobs?

And most importantly, did they even ask for assistance?

would Eppinettes be a store that people would drive a half hour or more to shop ?
I would say that would be a no brainer, considering they are the only pet store in union county and many surrounding counties,, and for horse folks they probably have shoppers from nearly all of south ark and north La.

did they renovate and old eyesore ? no, but they build a beautiful new one that greatly enhanced the look of west hillsboro that had plenty of eyesores around, DID THE CITY OFFER ANY HELP ?

will they add 25 new jobs ? don't know how many Epps has but I know for sure they have been a good solid employer here for 12 or 13 years now, and atwoods I understand will be closing a south ark store in the near future and killing 25 jobs.

does it sounds fair to you to offer atwoods tax breaks ? and not some of our very good locally owned retailers ?

What's funny is that this whole argument is based upon You making stuff up. Atwoods didn't get a penny from the city. The city just helped them find a building, as they should have when atwoods said they'd like to come to town.

Again. THERE HE IS. HE CAN NOT HELP HIMSELF. He's literally mentally ill, has an obsession, and you people keep baiting him, and its cruel. And he'll just keep responding. Tedder all over again. Just as his obsession was finally abating here it goes again because you people just have to bring up that family. I am so done. Go ahead and start shit. Go ahead and taunt a psychotic sick person. You people are just as cruel as he is for baiting him, knowing he can't help it. So done even trying to talk sense to you people.
